Default speedometer question

Is the vss in 92-95 civic hatchback a mechanical or electrical speedometer? Im asking a shop to calibrate the speedometer because it 10 mph over correct speed (im using stock wheels) and they charge alot of money for electrical. Something about adding a chip to convert the difference. Anyone can tell me?

I think it's electrical from what I have seen. I know Honda does calibrations for speedo's. Check them out.

this is odd...
my speedo reads 10mph too fast as well...
as tested against the gps...

i think the rpms are correct...and the mileage meter seems to be accurate on long trips matching forecasted mileage on Microsoft Street & Trips program...

very strange...
leads me to believe something is wrong with the speedo gauge itself...needle...etc...

i checked the dealer and referred me to another shop that calibrate speedometer. They said cars that are above 86 are all electrical. In order for them to calibrate, they will need to install a chip that converts the difference, cost about $400.

anyone knows some tricks to fix this?
