Help: Can't Get Car to Start
Well I just recently dropped a valve, but had it all fixed and sent off the the machine shop. I had a full valve job and the head milled .030" off. So I put it all back together today and I try to start it and it won't. I can hear the screeching of the starter and I'm pretty sure its getting fuel in there, but not 100% sure. I think its not getting a spark, but I'm not sure on that either. I did a search but I couldn't find much that sounded like what was happening to my car. Btw its a 98 civic ex with a d16y8. Thanks guys.
Also, can someone post some similar pictures of their engine bay as these? That way I can make sure I've got all the lines connected properly. Thanks.

can you smell fuel by the injectors? you'll be able to if they are firing. you need 4 things to start a car, fuel, spark, timing, compression. Just check everything related to those 4 componenets and you'll find the prob.

Check each cyl' for spark.

well I know fuel is getting to the fuel rail because I mistakingly disconnected the fuel line from it without depressurizing the fuel system and it leaked. just a note, i had .030" milled off the head, but that wouldn't make a difference I don't think.
I would assume that the starter is just spinning, because I hear no detonation whatsoever. I think that must be the problem: theres no spark.
have you pulled your plugs yet to see what they look like? Firing order? dizzy cap and rotor? Ignition coil? Bad wires? That's what I would start checking in that order.
plugs are fine, double checked firing order, dizzy cap looks good as well as rotor. the car was running great before the valve dropped. I dunno what the deal is now.

Not true if the car isn't getting the proper air/fuel mixture.

theres no way my a/f mixture is so off that it will not explode. I don't think thats it, in my case. tomorrow I'm checking all my grounds and making sure the starter is ok with the flywheel. anymore suggestions?

You would think, but the Honda dealership did a valve job on my old CR-V before I traded it in and it wouldn't turn over. They said the valves weren't seating properly....

No,
But whatever you say.....

check icm and troubleshoot all of your ignition (ohms, voltage) check to make sure ur not gettin spark at first, and check all fuses that have anything to do with ignition before u get in too deep
Well i looked at is some this morning with my dad and we have no idea what it is. I guess I'm just gonna have to pay someone to fix it.
are all your vaccum lines in the right spots?
dono if that has to do with anything but it looks like some of those dont belong where they are (too much slack on some while others have too little)

could be the distrubitor itself. not the cap and rotor. it could be the core of the dist. try check that out. my brothers integra, same thing happened. and he switched the some of the core pieces and it starts right back up. i forgot that it was called though. if someone knows this give'em the name please. thanks
the reason some hoses appear to have slack on them is because those hoses were cut to fit my old stock y8 intake manifold. I know I have compression because I took the spark plug out and my dad put his hand over the tub and when i turned the crank he can feel the pressure build. I also know I'm getting spark, because I pulled the spark plug out and left it in the wire and it will arc. I'm pretty sure I'm getting fuel because I can smell it when I try to crank. And I don't think my timing is off, I've checked that several times.
