Default 89 civic exhaust

okay heres whats up.

I want to make my exhaust sound really good, be reasonably loud ( not too loud ). Increase as much horsepower as possible. Does anyone know any tricks that can be used to insure better exhaust flow and increase horsepower? And what exhaust company should i go with?
