Default d16y7 engine question... oil jet?

when u do a mini-me non-vtec to vtec i know u have to take the oil jet or plug or what ever its call out of the block... does a d16y7 (96+ dx motor) have a oil jet? i got this engine from some one who got it from a junk yard. it smoked bad so im replacing the head gasket first. in the process i noticed it doesnt have an oil jet, im not putting a vtec head on it. so im asking do y7's have oil jets because if they do i need to get one to put in.

to put it more clearly if u put a y8 head on a y7 for a mini-me swap do u have to remove the oil jet like u do on obd1 models like the d15b7

uh...

smoke isnt good dude... i suggest a rebuild.

and yes they have oil jets, so you'd have to remove it so that your vtec can engage

I've read your post, look at the pics. in between cyl 2 and 3 theres a mysterious hole of super mystery.

its just not a very detailed write up.

https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=554053

look at that write up then tell me they dont look the same.

so to answer your question yes there is an oiljet and if you were to do a mini-me yes you'd have to pull the oil jet. Also, changing a head gasket wouldnt really fix smoke.... unless it was white smoke.

it was white smoke, but im settleing between bad rings or bad headgasket if something else then screw this engine... im not trying to be ignorant im just saying in the first post theres a hole in the second theres the plug in the hole before he removes it but mine has a straight hole with no plug... im just going to go to the junk yard a rip off a d16y7 head and check for a jet thanks for the replys

cool we are here to help...

bad rings = inconsisten compression in the cylinders

Bad head gasket = runs like total crap and white smoke out the exhaust.

just FYI.

yeah lol my car ran like **** but the only question i got is does the rings or the head gasket make it smoke from the engine? which for all i know the whole thing could be bad i might just have to do a rebuild but im a college kid on a budget do it ur selfer tring to get a crotch rocket so ill be out of a car for alil while longer i guess.

uhhhhhhhhh, I'm pretty sure that d16y7s don't have an oil jet in the same place as the obd1 and obd0 d series engines. I've read tons of mini me write ups and saw in one of them (write up on y7 block and y8 head) that there is no oil jet there, and that they use an internal oil jet.

That is from memory so don't quote me on that, I could be wrong.......... my suggestion, check it to make sure yourself.

Good luck with the rebuild

I would check the compression in the cylinders first.

for example if you're getting

100-98-102-36

It means that you have pretty much no compression in one of your cylinders...which means the rings are bad on that one.

however if you are getting consisten numbers across all of your cyl's but you're getting white smoke it means that the head gasket is bad and you're dumping coolant into the piston area...and burning it.
