Sometimes they are not a good idea because they are a distraction, but to each his own.

A lot of the smaller mp3 players have the radio function. I think the current, biggest iRiver goes up to 1GB.

I just bought my Ipod mini for this purpose, but have yet to try it out. I got it for 200 dollars on Apple.com shipped to my door because shipping is free and also if you are a college student you can get like 10% off. Also I decided not to get a huge one and spend the extra money but rather get a smaller more compact one and change the playlist regularly. Mine is a 4gig one and I have 511 songs and it is just about half full.

i have a 4gig mini ipod too. I love it. I have 1002 songs on it and i love it. I've got about 13 gigs of music on my computer, and i just cycle out what i get bored of. I don't see a reason to get a bigger player.
I haven't tried it while riding a motorcycle, because i don't have one (hopefully in a couple weeks) but i use it while driving my POS truck. For some reason it seems like a bad idea to me to wear headphones while riding, but i have no problems using ear buds while driving my truck

i would def recommend an iRiver for its versatility while riding, there is a 1GB version out now and i love it. u can hang it around your neck and control the volume/music selection easily with the small joystick. it has radio capability and exceptional sound quality with customizable EQ which surpasses my iPod mini. i wouldn't recommend the iPod while riding for other reasons.

I could not pass up that deal considering I was getting ready to buy a 256MB player for about the same price. And although the iPod was an open box merch, I think it was a great deal.

Damn that's a ridiculous deal. I will probably end up getting the 20GB one. I want something to replace my CD collection in my truck and have my entire music collection portable (more portable then my notebook). I was looking at the mini, but the 4GB is like $200, 6GB is like $250 and the 20GB is $300. I was hoping to get a 10-15GB one in the size of the mini, but doesn't look that way. Oh well.

I just bought a 512 meg mp3 player off ebay for like 50 bucks, it's the size of a keyless entry remote, I love it.

Don't ride with external sounds... you need all your senses running at full tilt when riding, unless perhaps running thru texas or like state

I have an Ipod Photo, 30gig. its thin enough that it will fit in any pocket. I like ipods because the software is A+. i would recommend (assuming its just for riding) just get a shuffle with 512MB, small light, small and cheep to buy.

if it's only for riding, pick up an ipod shuffle.
