I assumed i would be replacing my complete suspension with this but as a read suspension posts people are talking about using stock dampers with coilover systems? i thought i just bought dampers! do they mean the used a spring to coilover there stock shock\strut? There is no good posts about this thanks in advance...

"The Basic damper MSRP starts at $750.00, which includes 4 springs and 4 shocks. Compared to the "sleeve type" coil over, the Type Basic has a more exclusive set up for a better balance of suspension travel and damping force." http://www.tein.com/badamp.html

The "pillow ball mounts" or top hats are optional.

When people are talking about using coilovers with stock dampers they're buying a setup like skunk 2, or GC and using those sleeves on the stock shocks, (not the best idea).

well, they sale a basic damper and they sale a basic coilover. Which did you get? If it's the damper then you have to have springs to use. If it's the coilovers then it'll replace it all. And as said above, they're talking about coilover sleeves rather than full-bodied coilovers (Tein SS, Omnipower, JIC, etc.)

That was completely unneccessary. Everyone has to learn and now he will be. Were you just born with the knowledge of what to get, what it does, and how it works? Didn't think so...

Mrwool, actually, I'm kinda confused. I'm not the biggest fan of Teins so I don't know the most about what they call everything but.... I thought the Basic Damer kit was just that, the dampers (and maybe springs) and that the coilovers were actually called the Basic Coilover kit. The price ($740) is what the Basic Coilovers go for though so.... Do you have them yet? If so, look at the shock (damper). Does it have threads on it going 4-5 inches up and down the shaft? If so, you've got the coilover system. It will replace your stock spring/shock assembly. If not, then I'm not sure. Obviously it'll have dampers (shocks). You'll know if it has springs as well. Only question if it has springs & shocks is whether it comes with the top hats. The top hat is what holds the assembly to the body of the car (i.e. under the hood & in the trunk). It'll have a hole for the shock to go through and 2 studs that actually go in the car. Make sense?

*edit* nevermind, just looked at Tein's US website and it appears that they don't even have the dampers anymore or over here. For some idiotic reason, they're calling their coilover system dampers now. So... looking at the pic & description, you'll have to reuse your top hats (upper mounts). It doesn't say anything about the washers so you may have to reuse those as well. Everything else will be with the kit (damper, spring, perch, bump stop, & dust cover).

no, I wasn't born w/ the knowledge, but I had the common sense to learn what a part is and what it does before I buy it.

they come with everything but the tophat.
so you do have to reuse your stock tophats
or you could purchase pillow mounts from tein.

not sure if you get new bumpstops though..

wow you are one cool dude , i assume that you know nothing about suspensions as well considering the lack of any pertinent info in your post, mabye instead off sitting on the internet in your parents basement bashing people with legit questions you should get out and worry about your own 17 sec car ( Im picturing a 02 civic with giant wing , unpainted body kit , neon lights and alltezz style taillights sitting in this jacks driveway!!! And my SOHC beast runs 16.8 not 17.0 dont you have egg on your face jack !

Thanks for the info (except you jack) I have a local speed shop due most of the work on my car beacuse 1) Im not a mechanic 2) I have a career to worry about 3) i like my crap to work right. I trust them so when i told them i wanted to upgrade the my suspension with lowering springs and shock combo, they said i would get better performance and height adjustability if i go with either tein or omni basic damper kits. So i ordered it! I was assuming i was getting 4 shock\struts and 4 springs, UNTILL i read some guys post saying he was running stock shocks with coilovers i MUST BE A MORON BEACUSE I THOUGHT a coilover was a spring coiled over a shock damn where is my common sence!! hope all this jiber-jabber helps you to help me
