I'm surprised no one's mentioned this yet, so I'll break the ice.
Anthony Serra showed up this past weekend at Lime Rock with a new ITA car: a newer-gen Integra (the post-'93 body, sorry kids I don't know my Honda chassis codes.) That in itself was interesting, but the fascinating part was the build.
This, my friends, was THE FINEST example of a race car build I think I have ever seen in my 20+ years involved in club racing. This car was built with an attention to detail that would dazzle even the most jaded of onlookers. The quality of work was such that it honestly, truly should have been placed on a pedestal in an art museum. It looked like a brand-new car fresh off the showroom floor, except a new car from the dealership would look like Scott's dog car in comparison. Every little detail was taken care of, from routing of hoses and wiring to clenaliness of components, top, side and underneath. I was in awe of this thing, marvelling at it while watching the jaws drop of people walking by. The most common comment was "oh...my...god." Until you've seen this car, you have absolutely no friggin clue how to build a race car.
He started from the back in the race (didn't run the qualifying session) and worked his way up to seventh (?) by the end of the 15-lap race. His times weren't lap records (you can't expect EVERYTHING in a car's first outing) but his times were such that he would have been right up there with the lead pack had he started up front. I have no doubt it won't be long before that car is down to his expected lap record territory.
Begin your hand-wringing now: he says the car is already sold, with the contingency that he can drive it in the 2005 ARRC.
Anthony, you done good, pal. Get that coin for Grand-Am. - GA

The amzing part about the car is they banged it out in a matter of days in February, then finished it friday night/saturday morning, missed qualifying so the car had never turned a wheel before. He had a decent race, turns out one of the rear wheels was rubbing the control arm. Heres a few pics I took:

What, you kiddin' me? I've got one *killer* advantage: I don't care what my car looks like after the race...

Reminds me of the old white/orange Speedsource ITS RX7 that Tremblay and Haskell used to drive. That thing was incredible, and changed the standard for an IT car.
Chuck Reynolds ITA CRX is in the same category. I've never seen anything that nice, that clean, that perfect in my entire life. The paint job on the interior of that car is as nice as anything you'll find brand new on a dealer lot.
I can't bring myself to put that much money and effort into something thats very likely going to get crashed.

I didn't know the car's already sold, but I was pretty darn sure about the latter part. We've been keeping in touch and since he first started on his 3rd gen integra project, he's been saying to come on our best game at the '05 ARRC. Seeing this, guess we'll just have to do that! Greg, I hope you'll be bringing your best game, too. And don't be intimidated, him showing his car in such pristine condition is all part of the mind game he's playing on all you NE folks.
Finally, assuming it's dry I have this gut feeling that there should be at least one ITA car going under the current track record come November. Should be fun!

No offense, but don't make me laugh! I think you boys are seriously misinterpreting my admiration for a well-done prep job with intimidation or concern. BWAH-HAH-HAH! You obviously don't know me. I might be envious of the car, but this dog don't automatically do the omega roll for the best-looking one in the pack. You might have the prettiest car in the field, but you still gotta DRIVE the sumbitch.
Besides, I get to run against him all year; it'll be No Big Thang when we meet in November. You guys? You get to see him...once. Well, maybe twice per race, depending on how slow you are...

Ah, but we get to run at Rd. Atlanta all year. And this year, if we ever get a dry race, there is a close group of 3 or 4 of us that are pushing each other and making ourselves better.
Should be just as much fun as last year!

Hey, laughing is very healthy, so you're welcome! You're right, I probably know you as well as you know me. So I'm sorry for misreading your appreciation of that Integra by obviously making this huge mistake of also associating you with any kind of intimidation, or concern.
And Bowie's right. Us, SE boys will be ready for all you guys come November.

That's the "War of Northern Agressive Driving?" you are refering to?

I loved the commment about seeing him once or twice per race. Too funny; but true.
I was one of those gawking at Anthony's car. Somehow the bondo chunks falling off my car doesn't exactly compare.
But as you said, at this point who freakn' cares when the car isn't in great shape.
Greg - totally off topic, I love the plane picture!! Passion # 2 looks awesome.

I think all of the CenDiv, NEDiv, and SEDiv ITA guys will have no shortage of great cars to race with all year in preperation for the ARRC. Each one of those divisions is pretty chock full of great ITA talent. Obviously the SEDiv guys have the advantage here with the ARRC being at their home track. But, I think a lot of us have at least one trip there under our belt. coughcometomidohiocough
I'm kind of anxious (and a little worried) to see just how good this car does throughout the year. Here I thought I had closed the gap a little bit with my '92 Integra.....but we'll see. So far this year, 1 opportunity and 1 track record. (Alex, you loving that FD as much as I am?) Gotta love these ITA Integra's!
I can't wait to get to the ARRC and run with you guys again. Last years was probably the funnest race weekend I've had.
