the big and tedious question...swaps
to start off..got a 99 civic 2dr EX...stock everything
im not much of a hondawiz but every now and then i go to various sites to do some reading on what goes on. and i have a lot of friends that have hondas/acuras as well and they deal with performance alot. and from what i can conclude (personally), everyone has their own taste when it comes down to swaps. i'm still in high school and i'm planning on putting all my effort into my car after college (my plan as of now but I could work on it during summer vaca's etc).
and what im posting for is what do you guys think is the best? i'll probably be limited to about 10 grand once i get a fulltime job and all that. im not looking for a monstrous racer nor a daily driver. most likely what ill do is buy another crap car to replace my car for a daily driver.
but what ive been looking into these days is a k20 swap. ive heard they're possible and ive heard the 1/4m numbers are pretty low for a stock swap. at first i thought a b16 but i'm not really looking for one of those regular swap'd out civics you see (atleast around where I live). h22 has been on my mind lately too but im actually not sure which of the 3 (b16, h22, k20) has the most potential overall (naturally aspirated...not looking into turbo'ing unless b16). so if you guys wanna give some input on this and tell me whats possible or what not that'd be helpful...and ill continue my research and see what i can come up with.
and just thought of this right as i was ending the topic so i thought id give it a quick post. but i dont know of any ppl around here or haven't done enough reading on what the numbesr are like on a rebuilt d16y8 (motor in my car i believe) with turbo/supercharger. im told it'll cost a several grand for the internals and boring it out, etc but i haven't heard of how much potential it can have. most likely ill stick with a swap but rebuilding has been in the back of my mind.
like i said, 10 grand will probably be my limit. I'm not looking for a monstrous street racer nor a daily driver. oh and how is the maintanance when it comes to swapping. im assuming that the greater the work involved in a swap, the greater the work it'll be maintaining the car in good condition (engine atleast). i probably won't be driving the hell out of this car unless im at the track or pickin races at red lights at nite.
i know i should research more before i post but nothings the same as getting a direct opinion instead of "dumbass...one word, 'search'" if you guys know what i mean. ive heard tons of good things about honda-tech and i'm hoping you guys will help maintain it's reputation. thanks a lot and i hope you guys can provide some good feedback and anything can and will help.
