How to paint a valve cover??
Anyone ever done this if so what is the best paint to do it with. I wanted to go withred like the type r valve cover but I dont want to pay $200. Flat red or gloss red. Spray or brush????? HELP
go to your local auto store and find some paint that withstands atleast 500 degrees... theres also paint that can withstand 1200 degrees but you don't need that much...i don't know the name of the paint, but it is a in a spray paint can and has somethin' that saypoo pooemp" paint...also get this product called " graffiti remover"...its works wonders on takin' off the old paint from the valve cover

Rather than paint, you guys want Powdercoat, it makes it look original instead of shiny.
And if you choose to paint, the paint is called High Heat Manifold Paint, and is available in Matte and gloss...the picture above looks gloss.

You guys take off the valve cover when painting or do you just tape off and use newspaper? Im thinking about spraying on another layer of flat black.
Yeah, take the valve cover off and cover anything you don't want painted (like spark plug holes, working, etc).
For, I just used flat blue caliper paint. I have people come up to me all the time while at the track asking if it was original.

looks great. (missin a screw though)
thanx...yeah, be careful when you put on the screws to not torque them to tight or they will break off
my valve cover is not glossy...it looks that way becuse the flash from the camera reflected off it makin' it look shiney...but in real life it looks a lot better cause i made the resolution of the picture low so it wouldn't take long to load which made the paint look uneven and blurry...
