Default Need advice from prelude owners

Ok...here's the deal. My friend has a 4th gen prelude. He blew his motor and swapped a stock H23. All he has modded to it is a custom catback exhaust. I saw him racing one night against a Vortec-6 S10 extreme modded and beasted on him. Also saw his timeslip and he runs a 15 flat. Does that make sense for just an h23 and a catback?? That sounds a little extreme but i'm an accord owner. Can anyone vouch for this being correct or are my instincts correct and he's feedin me poo poo? I'd appreciate any info

He probably is a bad *** driver, do you know what his 60 foot times are? That will explain a lot about making the 15 flat..

There's also a chance that *just maybe* that H23 he swapped in might have some high-perf internals.. mild cams, maybe upped compression?

I once had a friend that bought a stock D16Z (92-95) 1.6 SOHC VTEC motor..

We called him the Super Civic cause all he had was an AEM Intake and would keep up with my Lude until top of 3rd...

Turns out after he blew it and we ripped it apart, had a ported/polished head on it.. so who knows what your friend might have inside the motor.

Does he have any weight reduction done? Prelude SIs shouldn't hit 15.0 ETs with just exhaust.

Its a totally stock H23...he got it at a junkyard and dropped it in. Unless the previous owner was a serious motor enthusiast, i think its just basically stock. No weight reduction unless he shaved off metal off the car or somewhere thats not visible. he's got a full interior. He has some driving skills, but nowhere near i'd think he'd be able to pull off a 15 sec run. How much do preludes weigh since i'm thinking about it?

Is it a prelude S or SI?

I'm pretty sure its an SI since he has the same wheels I have on my accord which are from an SI. However he's stripped all badging and had the car repainted since then. its a 94.

I think he's lying, there was a mistake at the track, or the timing equipment malfunctioned.

I figured that...He had this big problem with poppin the hood for me...he never wanted to show me until last night he finally broke down and told me. He said the next time he's got his 'lude with him, he'll pop the hood and show me everything. Now i think i'm gonna take him up on his offer. I knew there was more to it than he said.

I'ma go through the entire car, motor to muffler, and see what all he's got. I witnessed the race with my own eyes so i know he's got some kinda speed. Once i give his car a thorough inspection, i'll get back to you guys on this one. This way i can either give him props for proving me wrong or bustin his ***** for lyin to me.

Bring a bat. Don't forget to check the intake tubing for a nitrous line. A 50 shot would put him right at a 15.0 ET.

I know a couple guys with H23's that have posted those kinds of times with bolt-ons. Mainly exhaust and intake. It's been a few years so I can't remember the 60 ft times but I know they caught a good light, 60 ft was good and they stayed on it. I would say they were good drivers'. I have driven many Preludes, even bone stock. I know there is a difference between one and the next. That's pretty much the same with a lot of cars though. You might just end up getting a strong one.
