Default Lexan windshield

I searched on this issue and found this thread: https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1225961. My question portrays more to a windshield, though. Anybody done it? I figure getting one molded out of Lexan\Acrylic would be pretty expensive for someone to do, but i thought you could just make a mold of the stock glass one and pour it yourself? Thoughts?

Forgive my noobishness, I'm new to the full size scene. I started out in Nitro RC cars, but they got a bit old. I could go on and on, but i'm getting a CRX within a year, and didnt know if this fit into the Fab forum.

1. The first time you even thought about wiping it off it would be scratched. Lexan is plastic, and not very hard at that. It is quite soft and gets scratched quite easily, you would be lucky to go a month and be able to see out of it.

2. The glass of the windshield supports a lot more weight than you might think when the car rolls over, and strengthens the body substantially in "normal" situations. You would be naive to run the lexan without a roll cage.

There's a lot to think about with stuff like that, besides the weight.

Oh, and welcome to Honda Tech.

We have done this on many of our racecars. If you buy the expensive anti scratch stuff problem solved. as far as moulding it to the windows we buy a 4X8 sheet remove the old windshield without smashing cracking too much etc. then use the old windshield as a template use a heat gun on a low setting with about 1-2" away and you can heat it and bend it. it sometimes gets a discoloured whiteness or a smoked look but it clears as it cools.
I have done this for my stock for all 4 windows.

i wouldn't do it, because of how hard it is to see out of. i know windshields are heavy, but i'd rather be able to see and have some rigidity then save a few pounds.

okay, so the consensus here is that
A) dont do it without a roll cage, and
B) unless you buy the expnsive stuff, it'll scratch real easy.
thanks for the info, it was just an idea i had.

drdisco, do you race any? just wondering if there was any good autocross action in this area, seeing as how your in charlotte. plus, now i know where to go when i get the ECU chipped.
