im looking for a set of good gloves, i know this is a pretty lame topic but i didn't want to ask in any other forum. When i was at JGTC there was a company selling a theres for like 60.00 which is about what im looking to pay. any advise and or brands you would suggest would be nice. thanxx!
I'm rockin' the $60 Simpson ones. I likes 'em. I also have a pair of Sparco's that I haven't tried in the car yet, but they fit really well. AdamITR at http://www.Curpiermotorsports.com has some good deals on the Sparco's.
Mostly depends on what type of steering wheel you have (leather, suede, or vinyl covered), and what type of glove will grip or slip best to your desire.

For 60 bucks you can NOT go wrong with a pair of Sparco Speeds. Link: http://www.sparcousa.com/prace...d=346.
I bought a set at the Road Atlanta pro shop and I love them. Just don't make the mistake of trying on any of the high end gloves...you'll start considering them. I did but managed to escape temptation (just...)

I bought these ( Simpson Race Products ) at Simpson World here in Charlotte back in November 2002 to replace my thread bare OMP gloves. It was sort of an "out of necessity" purchase at the time but it ended up being a fortunate one - they are still supple and still show next to no signs of wear (my OMP gloves, near the same price point but the material seemed half as thick, wore through in half a dozen places after a few Driver Schools and a year of racing).
Items like shoes and gloves, the bulkier outer wear items, I think Simpson makes an extremely good product at a very reasonable price. Stuff like balaclavas, socks, nomex underwear, I think you will find a Sparco or Momo more comfortable (I have balaclavas and socks from both Simpson and Sparco and the Sparco stuff is much more comfortable to wear).
Not a big fan of OMP here, I have a driver suit that weighs a metric ton and had to repair some stitching within months. Gloves by same company left me wanting as well. I am sure they make a good product but I guess I have not shopped in the price range (or had the benefit of better selection) to find it yet. Also note w/ OMP (and be careful with any purchase like this) that they are SFI rated so they will be usable in many venues - many of their gloves at least have neither SFI or FIA tag.

I'm sure you are kidding. But to chime into the unknown, they actually serve a purpose to give you a grace period while things are hot as hell - literally - should something go horribly wrong. The other situation that most people do not put into perspective is glass - when and if it shatters, you'll want gloves to get around the pieces.

I can't really prove that being the cause, but nothing else happened to the gloves, so I don't know what else it could be.

Wow that's a weird one. I've only used my Speeds for two race weekends; I'll monitor their longevity. Scott's got a leather Momo wheel on the car so we'll see how they hold up. So far, so good.

Up until the Mini they had done fine with various other steering wheels (plastic and leather covered). I don't know what it was with the Mini
After a trip to the Saferacer.com showroom, I ended up with a pair of these:
http://www.saferacer.com/shrartauragl.html
They only feel about 2000% better than the G-force gloves I used to wear. Leather palm, leather reinforcement (the gray on the index finger), nomex lined.
Don't hold the fact that he races a Spec Miata against him....

Oh, far from it. If anyone is gonna know how to buy safety equipment, it's a Spec Miata racer, as much as those guys drive into stuff
Actually looks like a nice glove for the price. I like the ones that are pre-curved to the shape of your hand. Tried on some of the Sparco stuff that was like that, but couldn't justify the cost.
Nice gloves, for me, were one of those rare surprises that made more of a difference in how I drive a car than I thought they would.

I always rock a set of cheap Mechanic's gloves to all my driving events
they have the suede palms to absorb moisture and grip my MOMO wheel nicely
granted I have not raced on a curcuit or done anything besides the week end warrior stuff but they worked great and I can afford them
