Crossflow head I see. Why not go the 16v route. Engines are a dime a dozen these days(at least in socal). Intake manifold looks good.

Thanks for the nice comments guys

Yes this is yarrows old shell that was supposed to be a rally car. I have no plans to run any particular class more or less just what i can get into and have some fun for now. With the new addition to the family funds are limited and really keep me from going all out and making a "legal" competitive car. I really dont have any real goals set or even an expected power. This is gonna sorta be a trial and error type thing and i am on stock block for now. I have a couple backups and will be doing a full built motor and solid lifter head over next winter.

So far the car has

2.0 ABA motor
020 trans w/atp spool
kennedy solid copper disc w/clutchnet PP
T3 tubular log manifold
PT SC50 .63 a/r
Autronic SMC
N.O.S Direct port
Taylor Battery box
Full painless wiring
Carrera coilovers
Snap dragon Roll cage

Still have to get ahold of pump, injectors, WG, bov some rubber and a some other random stuff but trying to get it wrapped up by the end of this month

Nice. Your son has that right hand shifter claw grip working already. Check out the hand position.

I like the dubs cause theyre cheap to get. And those iron blocks hold the hp very well. The tranny on the other hand......

Default looks good tommy!

Tommy, I glad to see that I'm not the only one to build a car with no attention to classes or sanctioning bodies. I plan to see you at some of the midwest events nonetheless. At NOPI and BOTI, I'll be way to fast for one class and way too slow for another so my brother and I will just go for yahoos. We plan to be the fastest $2000 volkswagen there! We should look good at Import Wars at GLD, though!

Soch, I've been working on those 020 tranny problems and feel that I may have some solutions. I'll post them up as we get our car to the track and test some things. We are setting up our gearing based on dyno numbers (I have endless free dyno time at my avail!) and corresponding them with the right tire diameter. I'm sure that I'm not reinventing the wheel, but I've got to test for myself.

I'm excited to see what happens for the new batch of vw drag racers! I'm also really pleased that this forum is so willing to accept what we are doing. I've found tons of answers for this drag racing newbie. Thanks honda-tech posters!

dave......

the motors are pretty solid the transmissions have their issues but there are ways around it. Where did you get your wheels from and how much did they run you?

Its very tough to build a VW to be 100% legal the parts resources and financial backing just arent there for VW like they are for a lot of other manufacturers i think thats why a lot of the fast VW guys dont last very long because they just cant afford to do it any more. The parts are expensive for these cars and a lot of the stuff is custom stuff because there just isnt the support. Ill be perfectly happy just running for fun right now hopefully meet some new people and get more ideas someday id like to build a pro car but hey im still young there is plenty of time to do that in.

So when is your car gonna be out and about?

yeah i hear that about the VW world getting whack.....

I havent left the 1.8T world, but I try to stay clear of posting about it on the tex. I have a new setup as well, I have recently converted to DTA standalone, converted to DBC and I'm about to fire it up this week.

The tranny pp combo has been the weekest link I've encountered over the last few years. Everything else is solid. I first began to explode the diffs last year....then finally threw a quaife in there....now the pressure plates are failing at the 8500rpm levels. I am doing the all motor thing...just seems that the pressure plates hate to be revved out much.
oh yeah...Bogart is in my back yard....tho i cant remember what I paid for those rims. I'm getting old.
