Need help with a honda scooter :(
Hello, Please forgive me if this thread does not belong here, I was just refered to this site by a friend.
I have a 1996 Honda Elete 50CC Scooter. It is my main transportation around the city. It's in great mechanical shape, I keep it clean etc... take it for maintance.
The issue that i'm having and trying to research, is that I cant get the darn thing over 21-24mph. I've done a lot of research on the bike, and the most that I can find is that the bike has a restricter limiting the speed. I've found also that the bike is supposted to go aprox 30mph.
I am seeking assistance figuring out how to make the bike get closer to those speeds of 30mph.
I cannot replace the bike, I do not have the money to purchase a faster one, and also, faster ones around here all seem to be put in cycle catagory, even though their 50 cc.
My grandfathers 50 cc yahama does 45-55mph easially, and extremly quick pickup speed. That one is rated as a cycle.
My friend's 1994 (i think thats the year) Honda Spree 50 CC Moped goes 35mph, and is licenced as a moped.
Again, please forgive me if this is not proper place to post this, and also if this isnt the proper site for this.
Any help that can be given will be much appreciated.
Thank You
Chris

This isn't the greatest forum for this kind of question. I'm sure theres a yahoo group for elites where you could ask. Or try asking this guy, hes the man when it comes to diagnosing scooter problems: jack@jacksscootershop.com
Hello, thanks mos, I will try containg him.
Bud, I believe the manual for the bike said 150lbs rider on flat road. I am 170, my wife is 85lbs, neither of us can get it over 21-25mph.
The other mopeds i stated, were the speeds it went when I test drove them.
I have been searching on how to de-restrict it, but havent found a manual on it yet, still searching though
Thanks Much
Chris

I'm no scooter expert, but most are restricted in the same fashion. This site came up on google with some decent pictures.

THANKS!
I am going to give that a try in the morning
Once I dig out my socket set ^_^
I hope my bike has the "washer restricter" on it that I can remove : )
I also found on a few sites it's recommended to replace the tires from factory defaults to new larger ones, which will give more speed but not show it on the spedometer.
Thanks Again,
Chris

I did this to my scooter which was gear limited to 75mph, no sprockets to swap here. Be careful with clearance though. I had to do little hacking to prevent the rear tire from rubbing things.
I've heard people have mixed results with restrictor removal. Some scooters have more than just an air restriction. On some you need mod the carb or swap the CDI box from the equivelant non-restricted version. Hopefully you do not have one of these bikes.
