What do YOU think about the Kawi Ninja 250R?
My wife rides a 2000 Ninja 250 and loves it. I use it around the city because its so easy to handle. It can get tiring on the highway but the little engine's a screamer with a 14,000RPM redline. 0-60 mph is 4.4 seconds so you can leave alot of cars behind at the lights. Top speed with me aboard (150lbs.) is 170km/h which is 105-110mph. Gas mileage is between 65 and 70mpg and insurance is cheap. You should have fun but will get tired of people asking "Why'd you buy a little 250 instead of a 600?".
250 Ninja..hahahahha. Pull away 3000 RPM ..4000 RPM...5000RPM check watch, 6000, 7000, adjust jacket, 8000, 9000 check email, 10000 ooh some go, 11000 a little go 12000 noise, 13000 more noise 14000 ears bleeding 14500 climax, change into second.
Dont do it, please dont do it. Gutless disposable hairdriers with dodgy styling and massive inferiority complex. GPZ500/GPZ600 all the way. Leave the hedge trimmers where they belong

i dont have the money for anything better... all i want is somethign better than my 1982 Honda FT500 ASCOT. 0-60 in 4.4 for the 250R is still pretty nice... if i had the cash id get a CBR 900RR like you or a new 954RR, but like i said.. i dont.
I told you people would give you a hard time but its a fun bike for the money. My wife has a Muzzy pipe and jet kit which helps a bit and makes it sound alot different.
hey 16el... the bike im looking at has some stupid decals on the bodywork... are they removable on your wife's bike? Im hoping i can take the purple stripes off of the bike if i bought it. Thanks,

None of the stickers on my wife's bike are covered with clearcot so they could easily be removed with a hairdryer. You should check http://www.ninja250.net for lots of info. There's a forum and a list of FAQ's (frequently asked questions). My wife's bike and my SV650S can be viewed by clicking "Tia&Chad" in the Riders section at the top of the forum page. Its a great site with lots of friendly people. Another site is http://www.ninja250.com but I like ninja250.net better. Hope to see you there.
i LOVE your SVS!! Ive always wanted one of those... I want a yellow canadian version but unfortunantly i dont have the cash for that... only a 250R...

Thanks for the compliment. I really like my SV too! I've owned since the spring of 1999 and put 23,000kms on it so far. I just installed a Yoshimura pipe and am waiting for spring to arrive. I also like the yellow but decided to go red because I got a better deal on it and would've had to travel to get the yellow. They sold out very quick in the 1st year.. The SVS came out in the US for 2001 and we don't get the naked bike here in Canada. The colors for 2002 are blue or silver and its the 1st year without yellow. The colors usually differ in the US and I know the naked model is available in yellow for 2002 but something tells me the S model isn't. Check http://www.suzuki.com for details. Good luck shopping for the 250.
poo poo that is kinda cheap . . . but its becasue its a 250
i think you will be dissapointed with it . i started out on my 600and i feel its way too small for me . . . now i want at least a 750

but you have to understand i started out on a 1982 single cylinder 500cc 22hp 430lbs bike. The 250R is twice the bike, if that tells you anything about my current bike. And even my current one beats stang GT's to about 50mph (how would i know.... >
Anyway, find me a 1996 750cc for $1200 in perfect condition and ill jump on it... along with the rest of the world heh. You have to realize that my budget doesnt allow for a high displacement sport bike. I cant spend over about 2 grand. So if i get this 250R i still have enough for a nice exhaust system and jet kit or equivilent.

For that price i would jump on it. I'm currently looking for one myself just to ride for summer. I know its small, but for the price they are a fun little ride. I was raised on 6, 9, and 11's but the little 250 is still fun. My advise to you is to leave the stock exhaust on it. It will never be as fast as a bigger bike, so all you'll be doing is increasing the noise for minimal power. Leave it like it is, a fun little bike to whip around.
Sorry mate,
Anyway didnt mean to be an ***, but a GPZ 500 or 600 will **** rings all day long around the 250 for similar dosh. Thats all i meant....sorry

if all your looking for is something to buzz around town, it would be ok.
easy to handle, good on gas, etc.
if you are going to be on the highway much at all - wait till you can get something bigger. guy I work with bought one (all stock) and i took it for a ride, with me on it (225#) and a slight headwind it barely broke 60 mph.
he wanted it for something to ride to work on (9miles highway one way) and went the 250 since it was cheaper and he was a new rider. wound up trading it for a 600 after about a month so it wound up costing him more in the long run.
good luck whichever way you decide.

I think it would be a step down from your other bike. your choice though. I have a 95 suzuki gs500 that has a yoshimura pipe and jetted out, I got it for around $1500. not much more to pay for twice the cc's and it gets 60-70 mpg also.
Due to some unexpected car costs it turns out i wont even be buying a 250R... no bike for me in my near future... oh well. A solid bottom end is more important than a bike right??
hmm i think im gonna get one of those used, as my first bike!
i still have to learn how to ride a bike and get a license lol
