Hey all-
Heres a few pictures of what I have done with my new TIG machine! Let me know what you think. I have only been welding for about a week(TIG anyways), so be easy on me!

The last 3 are of a flat bar bender I made. Works absolutely flawlessly, and will bend up to 1/4 inch flat bar. Tell me what you think!

OT: What camera do you use that doesn't get washed out in welding pics? My camera sucks in unnatural light.

 

Beepy, I am not sure what camera it is. My brother just bought it. I know it is from Kodak, is 5 or more MP, and he has a bunch of different lenses that go onto it. You need to use a UV filter when taking pictures of an arc, otherwise, it is a big white blank spot because of the intensity of the light.

WHat size filler are you using on the aluminum.?

 

Looks very nice...only thing I notice is you might want to lift a little slower at the end of the weld to avoid the crater, but very good

Thanks guys. Yeah I am working on getting rid of the crater on the last puddle of the weld. Filler size on the first pic is 1/16, second pic is 1/8.

You will be able to do that by letting off the heat slowly before you stop.

Looks good though.

 

the camera is a Kodak DX7590 ZOOM DIGITAL CAMERA

Here are the settings he used -
Shutter speed - 1/194 sec
Lens aperture - F/3.1
Focal Length - 6mm
Exposure time - 1/200 sec
ISO speed - ISO-80

maybe that will help lol

 

Thanks Engloid. Anything else you see that I could improve on? My WORST part, is trying to go around corners without melting it slightly! I have tried and tried and tried, with no luck! Any tips?

Not much there that you can improve on really. As for the corners....aluminum builds heat a lot when welding. You really have to back off the heat a lot as you get near the ends or corners of the piece. Don't worry about how many amps, just back it way on down as necessary to keep the same weldability as you near the edges.

 

Thanks a Bunch Engloid. "Not much there you can improve on", coming from someone like you makes me feel good about myself! I will have to work on the corners more, and see what I can come up with.

for items with long welds that you will have to stop and start a couple times anyway, start welding on the corner...that way you're welding it before the piece gets so hot.
