Default DX VS SI TRANNY 90-91...

Well I took my 91 stock motor and tranny out becuz it had 200k miles. Now I just got a rebuilt dx tranny to put in from a 90 or 91 so will it just drop right in no problems? I am just concerned about the tranny not an engine right now. Also whats the difference between an si 91 tranny and a dx 91 tranny? Could the dx tranny be considered a better city driving tranny? Becuause it would have better gear ratio's for in town speed limits? lol I dunno just wondering...

It will drop right in by itself right? Im not bolting it up to a motor yet. I just want the tranny in there!

The only difference between the two OTHER then a stamping on the back is the final drive: The DX is a 3.88 and the SI is a 4.25.

you can't really bolt the tranny in there until the motor is in.
the dx and si have the same gears just a different final drive
i've had both and for just driving around i'd prefer the dx tranny especially for a lot of highway driving. but the si tranny offers faster acceleration if you go to the track a lot or like to drive hard. but in the city not too much difference and i'd go with the si tranny. i'd really like to try out an si tranny with a hf 5th gear or something though

Well you could bolt in there if you just want to get it off your floor, the transmission does have three of the four engine mounts. Just have to take it off again to attach it to the motor.

you are right..but that just makes it a bitch to put the motor in
much easier to put all in at once
