I know I should've left it for the profesionals but money is tight and I have to pay New Jersey auto insurance, so anyways. I decided to paint my own skirts. I sanded them down and used primer for plastic from Home Depot. BAD MISTAKE!!
I went to spray it with a rattle can, and it began to run. I really don't understand why b/c I was about 10-12 inches away from the surface and kept a constant motion. Then when I came to notice that paint was eating away at the base coat (primer) . My question of the day its what type primer should I use on the skirts which comes in a rattle can. I tried searching, but its down. Thanks In Advance

when i painted sideskirts... i used primer filler from Kragens/autozone to fill in the little pits, then sanded them down to make it smooth. cleaned it off, then sprayed with color.
the only reason it ran was because when your sprayed your FIRST FINE coating of paint, you didnt wait long enough. YOu were suppose to spray a thin coat of paint so that it will make the other layers of paint stick on. THen can start to spray heavier coats.
The krylon fusion paint works pretty good for stuff like this. I used it to redo my whole front bumper bcus I didn't want to pay for a paint job on the bumper when the whole car is getting repainted in a few months.
when painting my moldings, i cleaned them down with alcohol and cotton swabs , put some adhesive promoter on them and duplicolored them up. theres tiny chips in them no0w cause of all the debris and one whole NYC winter but im glad with the results, -- Mirrors next@@

searched around and amazingly this was the only thread i could find on painting stock side skirts.
just wondering what most people out there have done w/ the stock, black, textured plastic side skirts prior to getting them painted, especially on the dc/db. basically wanted to know the best method to get paint+clear coat to stick to it. is filling in the texture to make it flat prior to priming/painting best? or is that fuser treatment good enough?
TIA.

actually...the reason why that 'base' got screwed up is because the top coat (color) was probably not compatible with the primer that you laid on the skirt...it probably lifted it...hence your problem....so id suggest you just get 'auto' spray paint from your local auto parts store..it should all work together.
plastic primer should have worked fine. I just helped my buddy repaint his skirts and i used the home depot plastic primer. This was the first time using this stuff and it wasnt as good as the filler primer but was okay.

wow back from the dead i posted this like last year. Thanks for the ifo. I was gonna redo my skirts again. But i have decided to spray the whole car.
yeah, totally back from the dead. just given all the diy methods described so far, did any of them hold up after 1yr+?
or anyone know of an aftermarket side skirt (prefer fiberglass) that pretty much looks stock?

yeah, i think i know which one you are referring to. however, it's just their interpretation of what an OEM optional side skirt would look like for the db since honda never came out with such a kit.
any other recommeded brands?
