Fully rebuilt motor ----- break in questions--- and other start off questions
ok i had posted this on http://www.G2IC.com and people kept on getting focused on a different subject and not the broad question...
I have a fully rebuilt LS motor and it has not been started up yet... but the guy that i bought it off already put oil in it.. He used 100% sythetic oil in it... I have heard a lot of people say not to use sythetic oil to break in a motor cause its 2 thin or whatever.. BUT........ This is were my big question comes in to play.... Since you can't go from sythetic oil to regular motor oil... Is it going to cause problems if i drain whats in the motor and put regular motor oil in it.. remember it has not been started yet...
and if anyone can give me tips on how to break this motor in properly... any info would be a help....
thanks for your time.....

No problems if it hasn't been started yet. Put the oil you want back in it, and prime it. Change it @ like 400, 1200, and then 3000 for break-in.

Throw what you have heard about synthetics in the trash. You can switch back and forth without any problems. It's just stupid to spend the money for synthetic if you don't use it religiously.
I recommend draining the synthetic, and filling it with Valvoline 5w-30. Drive easily for the first 300 miles. Drain and refill with 5w-30 valvoline and new filter. Drive normally, but no 6000+ rpm for the next 1000 miles. Drain and refill with 5w-30 valvoline and new filter. Drive normally, and redline if you want. Change the oil and filter again at 3000 miles. Once you hit 6000 miles you should be good to go with full synthetic.
