Default idle control valve problem help

Hi, I've been having problem with my Idle control valve for quite sometime....

Here's how it goes...

I was driving one day and everything was normal as usual. Then suddenly after driving for about 20 minute coming to a stop my car start idling at 1 1/2 rpm I was like ok.... it's not that bad as my friend turbo car he idle all the way to 3 or 4 rpm. I notice the problem keep continuing after 20 minutes of driving so i went to a friend who help me out. He got me a type R idle control valve for 20 bucks (used but good). everything ran smoothly for about 2 month then BOOOM it hit me again my car start idling at 1 1/2 and the check engline light came on. DAMMIT!!! (thats what I was thinking in my head) but then after that day my car didnt idle no more..... i drove for hours and hours there's no idling problem at all except that my check engine light is still on ........... I reset the brain (cpu) and 2 days later the check engine light came on again but the car is not idling .... HOW CAN I GET THE CHECK ENGINGE LIGHT TO TURN OFF... I KNOW THE IDLE CONTROL VAVLE IS THE PROBLEM BUT MY CAR IS NOT IDLING NO MORE. Any solution to this problem would really help... o yea one more thing a friend of a friend tells me to put aluminum foil around the neck of the idle control valve and that will solve the problem... never tried it ... but has any of you tried that before?

umm what?! Aluminum Foil over the IACV? Never heard of that one...anyways, i dont see why you'd need a new IACV or a "type R'' one...why not just clean out your old one? Also, it'll be alot easier if you'd tell us what type of vehicle it is including year and motor and what the ECU is saying the problem is...

...it'll make diagnosting alot easier
