Default HELP!!!! Clutch Won't Engage And I can't Shift Gears!!!!!!

OK this might sound REALLY dumb, but I think I know what's wrong. I was driving my 88 DX hatch today and I have just gotten the clutch replaced about 5 days ago. I've only been driving stick shift for about a week as of right now and I'm getting better and better. But anyways, so I was driving today and I was putting the car into reverse to back into a parking space and (don't laugh) I sorta messed up and stalled the car out. Well, I went to push the clutch in to turn the car back on and the clutch pedal came back VERY VERY VERY softly (but it still pops back out. Also I cannot shift into ANY gear PERIOD. The car is sitting in the parking lot right now in neutral. I think the clutch cable is messed up but I'm not a mechanic so I have no idea. Anyone have any ideas what's wrong?

Check to see that the clutch cable has tension. Sometimes when you replace the clutch, the cable won't seat properly and finds its way later, causing a bunch of slack and this sort of thing.

Oh, and AE86s rule...

OK thanks. Another thing is that I can start my car w/o pushing in the clutch But that was before I even did this so anyways, can I check the cable tension w/o having to have the car towed to my mechanic's garage? Cause I'm short on cash right now so any info on how to fix this is greatly appreciated.

There should be some kind of switch that detects if the clutch pedal is engaged, I would make sure everyting looks ok down there, im not sure if there is any adjustment for that. Its not a major thing as long as you dont crank you car w/o the clutch pushed in

It's a cable clutch setup, no bleeding to be done.

You lucky guys with the 88 CRXs can do that, there's no clutch interlock swich.

It's an easy check, pop the hood and look below the battery on the transmission. You'll see the clutch cable where it goes to the transmission. On the bracket on the upper part, give a tug on the cable where it rests on the top. If there's more than a quarter or half inch of play, turn the plastic **** until it takes up the slack.
