New proud owner of an EK hatch...
I went and test drove it today, and really enjoyed it. Sale is being finalized early next week. So you guys will see me in this forum more, and in the Integra forum less. Anyways, I have a question about the car. I got a cx which doesn't have an RPM gauge. I was wondering if there is a shift light on the car stock, or if the engine just cuts off when it hits redline? Thanks for any help
Sweet welcome to the HB family... Umm from what I know I don't think it comes with a stock shift light nor does any civic(from what I know) If you need an rpm guage get the jdm ek9 cluster cause that ***** badass and no your engine doesn't shut off when you redline unless you're keeping it at a constant 8-9rpm lol.
Haha, that's what I thought. The kid I'm buying it off of told me otherwise. Anyways, thanks for the suggestion...any website where I can get it? Maybe I should just get an 8" monster tach with 4 shift lights

only site I can think of at the top of my head is http://www.inlinefour.com and click J-Spec and you should see a bunch of jdm guage clusters and if you really want a shiftlight just get those individual shiftlights and you're set.

Thanks guys! I'm glad to see this forum is as helpful as the Integra one.
Also, where can I get an APC aluminum wing, and some orange flames for the side of my car
(note: sarcasm)

One of the way you'd get a cx with a shift light (using no aftermarket lights) as well as have it shut off at redline would be to use uberdata in the ecu. It can use the check engine light as the shift light, and you can set the rev limiter's fuel resume at 1rpm. The way it limits rpm's is to stop injecting fuel till it hits the fuel resume rpm. Setting it to 1 means it'll be w/o fuel till it's almost 100% stopped.
Get an EX guage cluster on the classifieds for cheap, and you'll have a tachometer.

If you need hookups on those small rpm tacs I can hook ya up. But the ones I can get only top out at like 7-8rpm

Yeah, I just saw a few 2 inch ones, and decided that's what I want to do.
Anyone know where I can find this for a 00 civic. I checked around and have only been finding 01+ for civics.

It is alot cleaner if you get the SI cluster IMO especially if you are swaping it, or even a type r cluster, save those gauge areas for when you need them. Also some hondas came with a shift light like the DX i beleive it was for the optimal fuel milage shift point rather than redline.

you can't put uberdata in an ek hb ecu. Needs to be obd1.
I would suggest you get an ex or si oem cluster, you can find the ex one for less than $100 and it will look stock.

I'm trying not to swap the cluster at all, because of the mileage difference. Many people question different miles on the cluster/miles on actual car...and many think it is not legit. So I'm trying to steer away from that, for resale sake.
keep checking ebay, you wil find one like in that pic for 20 bux plus shipping. I agree about the cluster like everyone else stated, get an EX or SI, CTR cluster is expensive. Or you can get an Apexi rev meter which has rpm's and some other useful functions, plus it looks good and is small. Also you could get an Apexi SAFC to use which allows some tuning as well as shows rpms.
dont waste ur money on the ek9 cluster... unless u wanna spend that much... just get an ex cluster since that redline is sort of close to yours... or if u want the amber look get an si or just color the ex bulbs...
u can get hear the engine to know shift points and when u take it up to redline... which is about 6500 in ur cx... it will shutter and u will know it... not a good feeling...
dont even try to take a cx motor to 8-9k... wont happen
the shift light did come on some hx or vx, cant rmemeber which one, but it showed optimal point to shift for gas mileage..
good luck man

Thanks a lot guys!
for very good and quick responses.
As previously mentioned, I would like to stay away from swapping out clusters. I'm most likely going with the gauge cluster shown above. The only concern I have is the 2" gauge being too small, and causing my shift accuracy to be thrown off. Anyone ever use a 2" rpm gauge and have a problem with this?
