ITR vs S2000 ( to buy or not to buy is the question)
I rode in my friend's S2000 with an Injen CAI and man, it's great! It sounds mean, and there's nothing like hitting VTEC with the top down.
So would you trade in your type R for an S2000 for say a difference of $4000? Or should I use the difference to get my J's racing intake, DC JDM Header, carsound cat, Mugen sway bars, and new tires? Also, I have a 2001 NBP ITR #203 with almost 6000 miles on it. How much do you think I could get for it? I'm thinking $22500-23000, maybe even less.

Your R could be just as fun as the S2000......did you ever take your R to the track to explore her wild side ??
I agree. As tested, the Type-R handles just a tab short of the S2000, probably better for most of us as the R's excellent behavior in the tight twisties is easier to control than the rear wheel drive S2000. The S2000 is also a little faster, but not a whole lot. With rear seats and much better carrying capacity, the R is much more useful for daily driving. I'm sure theft problem with the R is just as bad with the S2000. The S2000 is good only for recreational purposes only (i.e. second car). Add 4,000 dollars of power and handling goodies to the R (~3,000 for a race suspension, sway bars, tires, rest in minor motor mods, i.e. intake, exhaust), you will have a car that will blow off the stock S2000 on any sports car track.

ITR is nice but if you only need to spend $4000 to trade up to S2000 I would do it in a heartbeat. This is for pure performance/enjoyment consideration. If you have to factor in backseats and such, that's different.
A ITR with $4k of mod will not beat a S2000. At best it will match it (I doubt it). But S2K will always be more fun to drive.
I seriously doubt you can trade up to a S2K for just $4k more anyway.

bah. i'm not looking to start a s2k vs. itr battle. my opinion - bottomline is s2k is a better engineered car, and if it only takes 4k to move up do it. s2k will ALWAYS be more fun to drive. no kidding about that.
driving experience can't be measured by sheer performance sometimes. some cars will just give you a bigger grin.

i know some ppl can be hardheaded with the fact that they own an ITR, but come on........
track, straight line performance, looks (ya know the 3rdgen ITR is outdated like a ****)
id trade it in in a heartbeat myself, got to test drive and drive the S2K plenty of times, what a fun to drive car it is!
at the same time not disrespecting the R.......make a wise descision, good luck.

I think I can trade up for an S2000 for about $4000, probably $5000 but no more, because there have been 2000 S2000 going for as low as $26,000 and most are $28,000ish. My friend who has an S2000 says that he has seen one as low as $25,000 with a mere 20000 miles on them because the economy is going down and people want to save instead of having second car.
I really do like a lot of things about my R. However, despite my youthful age, I dont like the import scene and the direction it is heading right now. My car has already has been vandalized and it gets challenged by everyone from mustangs who wanna put down imports to civics with grapefuilt shooters who have something to prove. S2000 is just more classy than a type R too. I just think another 600rpms, one of the best shifters on the market today and the convertable top would be nice. BUT I maybe wrong that's why you guys are here
.
So this is what it comes down to: a lightly modded type R with the mods listed above plus maybe cam gears and a V-AFC or Hondata vs. a Stock S2000 cause the money I will save over the next 3 months will go toward the S2000 not mods.

I almost did, and don't regret not doing it. I wanted a "dedicated" race car...and I'd feel retarded putting a cage in and S2. I really wanted a convertible....but...decided to keep the R. I'm worried I'd crash an S2, esp with all the comments on how "bad" it handles when lowering it. Go over to S2Ki.com and read about all the people on their 2nd S2, seriously. I can get a new one cheaper than anyone on this board, yes for less than $28.....and I still didn't "sell out".
I will say it's tempting though. Like most on this board say, only when I can have both, then I'll do it. Plus, worst case, say you crash the S2, then there's no more getting your R back
...that would suck.
Your call, Hey, I was really, really close...but I didn't.
Plus they feel slow. Not saying they are, but ask Darth VadeR how fast they are
....err slow I mean.

its' still an integra!!
What is that supposed to mean.....umm...the WRX is still a subaru (i know, kind of diff), but what are you talking about.
Dated or not, the ITR will smoke a ton of cars on and off the track.

As I stated in a similar recent thread:
"They are two very different cars.
S2000:
- Provides open-top motoring
- "Cute"
- Will be prohibited from some track events due to its open top
ITR:
- Holds a crapload of stuff
- Has a backseat for dogs, kids, even an adult or two in a pinch
- Much better traction in wet and wintry conditions
They're both great cars - all depends on what you're looking for."
If you want a car for track events, you can count on the ITR to be accepted at any track event that has street cars. If you want a car for top-down cruising on a sunny day, the S2000 will do that. If you want a car that's a daily driver that can haul lots of stuff (as well as @$$), the ITR is better. It just depends on what you're looking for.

To me I would only buy an S2000 if I can buy a new, off-the-lot s2000. I don't like driving around in a second-hand car... unless it's a beater. (If you can afford S2000 as a beater, then more power to you.

Another S2k vs ITR battle he he. Both are great cars, but I think the R is the slower of the two, but definitely easier to drive. I've heard the S2k is pretty tricky to master, especially for inexperienced drivers. When comparing cars, I think autocrossing is a good judge since it tests acceleration, handling, etc. - everything you want in a sports car.
I realize that comparing autocross times isnt totally accurate because of weather condition and pavement changes throughout a normal autocross event, but for fun, I checked the times from the 2000 Solo II Championships and noticed some interesting things. The S2k is definitely a faster and better handling car, atleast on an autocross course. Whats even more interesting, is the fact that the S2K is oftentimes faster than big V8 cars like Z28's.
Here's some data...
A Stock Winner:
Gary Thomason, 00 Honda S2000 Red, Kumho tires
Day 1 Times: 51.613 50.732 51.076
Day 2 Times: 56.732 56.591 56.499
Total: 107.231
F Stock Winner:
Mark Daddio, 00 Chevrolet Camaro Z-28, Hoosier tires
Day 1 Times: 61.092(1) 59.007 58.543
Day 2 Times: 54.127(1) 51.888 51.953
Total: 110.431
G Stock Winner:
David Fauth, 98 Acura Integra Type R, Kumho tires

Day 2 Times: 59.177 59.338 59.198
Total: 112.948
I wont even comment on straight-line-only comparisons. Neither the S2k or ITR is meant for that type of stuff. These cars love twisties

Pavement changes can be significant in autocross, so comparisons are iffy. Track times would be much more interesting. I would seriously doubt a S2000 would beat a Type-R around a track by 3 seconds.
I don't know where people are getting a $4k upgrade price though. A $28k 2000 S2000 with tax is $30k or so depending on the state (very few states have no sales tax); a 2000/2001 ITR will go for $20-22k or so, which gives an $8-10k delta.
I have seen 2000 S2000s for $26k or so, but they usually have high miles; $28k is more typical at the moment. Also, if you are willing to travel, many dealers are selling new 2002s for $31k (with glass rear window and an improved transmission).

Does anyone else think that a set of Hoosiers on the R would easily drop the total a couple of seconds?!
Brett - What's up?? I just ordered an S2K for my dad! I think I may be bringing it out to a few auto-x's in Akron, you going to be around?
-Can I order you a yellow one?
