new here, thinking of buying a 92 Accord
Guy I know owns a used car lot and just got a 92 Accord in with 203k miles on it and will sell it to me for $500. I know the timing belt will have to be replaced, no big deal I can do that at work for around $50, and the CV joint is also going out, another $50 so it'll be about $600 total, plus transfering my tag over.
My question is, how long do these cars last? I have a 95 Mustang GT, dont flame... and I'm going to be driving long distances to college soon and was looking for a new car to do so in, and to put my mustang up and build my engine, suspension, etc.
If the timing belt was changed, will this car last another 60k miles? I did a compression test on it and they were all around 140-145psi. How much could I sell this car for in a few years when I'm done with it?

accords are great cars, becareful though ive seen many 90-93 accord master cylinders fail, and distrubutors blow, but other then that they should last quite a while if you don't abuse it, my cousins 1988 accord just hit 320k, and my other cousins 91 just hit 280k just to give u an idea, just keep it maintained and they should be fine
wow you can do timing belt for around $ 50??? are you replacing just the belt?? you also need balancer belt, water pump, coolant, balancer shaft seal+ retainer,,and i would definately at least use factory timing belts....
as for lasting i have seen them go over 400k as a matter of facts 3 of them ,,it all depends how people maintain their cars,,,if it is a manual is better than auto cause eventually your clutches will wear , more money to overhaul an automatic,
as for lasting another 60k i cannot say cause i cannot see condition of car but again they can last for a long haul ,,,,

I dont know either... Saw others try it so I decided to do the same.. ended up running slower.
The $50 is just for the timing and balancer belt. I was going to tear it down first, check it out and if it looks good just leave it, if not take the belt off and see what everything else looks like. Trying to spend the least amount of money on it as possible to keep it running if I do get it. Why do you need a new waterpump?

1105 if you are just inspecting and if ok leave it ,,,just remove the top timing belt cover no need to tear everything down if the timing belt looks good the balancer belt will be in better shape

thats what I planed on doing. Was going to inspect the belt first, if it looked good just leave it, if not take it apart, inspect everything else and decide if it needs the kit or just new belts.

i know you didn't ask for this but just so you know the cv joint going is a fairly common problem for the accords.
Since you paid so little for the car in the first place i don't think if you try and sell it a few years down the road that you will take too much of a loss. Unless you put a bunch of money into it. But id say go for it

I get parts at a discounted price since I work at a service station. I think I am going to buy it. I need to take it for a drive tomorrow and see if everything sounds good since my drive today was around the block to the station since it didnt have a tag on it.
heres the main reason why I'm looking into getting it. Blew a HG in my car cause of this... Its running again, but it messed up my nice aluminum heads so I have the stock ones back on... Never got it dyno'd cause it only lasted 2 miles down the street and back, but I wouldnt doubt 500rwhp easily...

that turbo is so yummy though <drools>. i have an 88 GT 5.0 that im building a 351 for. it'll end up w/nitrous but i would absolutely LOVE to run a turbo(so expensive). oh man. im envious.
what heads were you running? i have edelbrock performer RPM's on my other windsor and I want to run AFR's on my new 351.
and how much did your turbo setup on your mustang cost? and what was your redline?

sorry I havent checked the board for awhile.
The turbo wasnt all that expencive compaired to an HP kit or something like that since I made everything myself. I only took it up to 5000rpm on the runs in fear of bad things, which happened anyways. Had Twisted Wedge heads on there, but now one is messed up so I'm going to sell them. I'm saving up for a nice block, and a 347 stroker kit, then going to bolt up all new stuff to it.
