Default Just Got My First Civic!!!

Hey i just got my first civic. It is a 97 Ex w/ 80k miles and i just have some questions about fixing it up. First of all, the passenger armrest is cracked underneath the cloth. Does anyone know how i can fix it? Also there is a baseball sized dent in the hood. It has no paint chipping off and i was wondering if there was some way to fix it myself. If not how much would it cost to have it professionally done? And finally... Performance. It has a a/t but i am still wondering what is the best way to give the engine more of an edge. Keep in mind i have little money . Thanks for your help.

Hahaha take apart your inner door skin and see the problem close up. As for the hood be ghetto and just bang it out with a flat hammer but make sure a fairly thick cloth is on top of the dent as you bang at it. And if you want some "edge" then dude just go to your local pepboys or some car store that sells car **** and get a cheesy intake and shabam there's your edge for ya!

an auto tranny wont hold you back unless your gonna auto X your car or drag it on a track. since its your first civic ( sounds like your first car as well) i'd just try to relax and have fun with the suspension and not try to mess with it too much...you may end up messing with something and then having to replace it

Ty for the help thus far. I don't think im going to focus on performance since i have an a\t and cant afford to swap out the engine. Anyway... I still have some questions about fixing it up. First of all the rear bumper is loose and makes noise when you drive over bumps. Anyone know how to tighten it? Also the pasenger side front wheel well has a small amout of rust. How do i remove it/ keep it from spreading? Now i have a question about keyless entry. The previous owner gave me a small keychain remote that says hornet on it. After looking at the manual, i know that it isn't for the keyless entry. What is it for and how much would it cost to get a real keyless entry remote? Fourth, under the dash on the driver side, there is a small black button. It has no labels and i think it was installed after the fact. Any idea what it is for? Fifth, there is a wire going into the driver seat. What is it for? And finally, can i get a cd player to replace the cassete player above the cupholders? Thats all my questions for right now. Thanks again for the help.

You siad your rear bumper was loose there are 2 10mm bolts underneather the bumper and then i philips head screw in each rear wheel well, and also 5 or six screw that you can see when you open your trunk, try tightening those and see what that does.

Dirt cheap turbo kits can be built up. But save that until later, if it is your first car.

Swaps are good, but sometimes expensive.

What is it with people owning civic's and ford trucks too? I happen to own both as well and I'd have to say my car would kick my trucks butt all over the place (being reliabilty and speed that is). Now with that being said IMO to start out with you should get an aem cold air intake, header and exhaust, not nessesarily in that order.

Thanks Runnin9z. Badrelge45, lets not talk about your own weaknesses and regret of your former actions (he is from NJ HAHAHAH). And third, the reason that I got a civic was because of its relability. I have several honda mechanics in the family and the swear by civics/accords. I also know many people that have trouble with non-honda used cars. The hondas never seem to have trouble.I fiquered out that the black button and the keyless remote afe part of some aftermarket alarm/valet system that i can't seem to work. So it seems the only question i have remaing is if anyone knows whether or not i can replace the stock cassette player above the cupholders with a cd player and leave the in dash counsol the same. Ty for the help thus far.

you can use the bottom slot for a cd player, but you'll lose use of your cup holders...just swap out the cassette player with a cdplayer and call it a day. this wont affect the "in dash console," check out http://www.crutchfield.com they have a thing where you can search for only the cd players/speakers/etc. that only fit your car, worth checking out and they're prices are good too, plus plenty to choose from. congrats on ur new car and have fun
