Default Small tip for removing sound deadning: DRY ICE!!

I'm helping prep a race car (not drag, but can be used for drag), and Dry ice worked wonders! we picked up 20 lbs from a shop we found on http://www.dryicedirectory.com (only cost us $20) and were able to get almost all of it done with that much.

We put the dry ice directly on the material, then waited around 5 minutes, and hit it with a hammer and chissle. In a matter of around 2 hours, we got 90% of the material out. It comes out in rather large chunks, as the dry ice breaks down the chemical bond in the adhesive.

Screw a heat gun and scraping, the dry ice is WAY easier to clean up too!

For the areas that are hard to reach, make a Dry ice slushie with some rubbing alchahol. That will work wondres by the firewall.

we had the entire dash, rebar, and wiring harness out before we started in on the sound crap, so it was still pretty easy.

And yea, i'm not sure the last time it was below freezing here in socal

Or you can use a shoe horn and some 91 octane gas to get rid of that **** if you are really broke. It works really good. Your hand will hurt though. JDM_jon knows that ****.

Dry ice works very good. We used it on my car and within about two and a half hours we had it all cleaned out.

man i seriously dont know why eveyone thinks this is such a pain in the *** and requires dry ice and or crazy misc stuff. Ive always used a hammer and chissel. Takes about 20mins to do a hatch and 30 for a coupe. Reason being a coupe takes longer is the thinner tar under the rear seat. In which sometime (rarely) i use a heat gun to get the crap up. Otherwise it always scrapes up in large chunks. I did a hatch once in 10 mins via hammer/chissel...

No doubt. Using dry ice and an air chisel owns every time.

You can get two types of dry ice.

Blocks, or crushed.

Crushed is just like crushed regular ice, and works much better.

Dry ice is definately the easiest/most preferred method.
