Default Buying a Jacket.... Tour Masters - Icon - Joe Rocket

I just picked up my new Shoei rf1000 badge helmet and now it's time for a jacket. I would prefer to get a nice leather jacket that will breathe easily since Charleston, SC is EXTREMELY hot in the summer time.

Right now I'm thinking about a Tour Masters Jacket... but I don't know much about the company. I know Joe Rocket and Icon are nice brands so I wanted a little input on what you guys are wearing and if you have any comments on this jacket.

I will be getting the ALL black one... or the blk/wht/slv. I found it for $220 sofar online at motoemporium.com, everywhere else wants 260+

Impulse Jackets Features:
Constructed with a combination of perforated and non perforated Top Grain, Grade A Aniline Drum Dyed leather.
Stitched with high strength 6 ply bonded nylon thread.
Removable insulated liner, with zip off sleeves, features 100gm Poly Fill insulation in the body and 50gm in the removable sleeves.
Rotated sleeves for comfort and performance in the riding position.
Accordion style expansion panels at the shoulders, elbows and back for increased flexibility.
Schoeller Keprotec stretch panels under the arms for ease of movement.
Removable elbow, shoulder and back armor with both shoulder and elbow armor CE approved.
External foam padding in the upper back provides additional protection.
Carbon fiber molded collar bone protection panels.
Molded shoulder vents to provide additional ventilation.
YKK zippered hand pockets feature a mesh liner, and double as vents.
Full circumference pant zipper attachment.
Molded TPR zipper pulls.
Adjustable waist belts help to fine tune the fit.
TPR molded Cortech logos.
3M reflective piping.

I tried on a nice Suzuki GSXR Jacket yesterday... but that thing is not vented and I would burn up wearing that thing in Charleston.

I wouldn't go with Icon, seems like more form over function to me.

I just got a Joe Rocket 990 and I love it. Excellent quality and Newenough has it for $329.

It's much softer than most leathers with the Pittard's ceramic infused leather which makes it very flexible and comfortable. It also has the 360 deg. zipper as well as the 8" zipper so that you can connect it to pants if you so choose.

Mine seems tough, but I hope I don't find out soon.

It seems to breathe well with the vents open, but I have had them mostly closed b/c the weather here has sucked for a while, but 80 possibly this weekend.

When it was nice here (maybe all of 4 days earlier this year) I was wearing a textile with body armor. This summer during the hot days I'll probably wear this one during track days and any time I ride spirited, on the highway, or both.

I just picked up a Tour Master Cortech Magnum Air leather jacket. Haven't had a chance to ride with it yet, but it feels real nice and has lots of armor and vents. Also, it was only 250 at the local stealership.

Joe rocket seems to be the APC brand of things in the motorcycle world...just ugly styling IMO. I like the Icon stuff because it has a lot of street apeal. Works well with the california weather too. Its just perfect gear for street riding and you don't have to look like a jerk wearing a full leather suit or hidious jacket to your local hang out spot. Maybe in some respects its as "Snaps" says...form over function at times. But, its my favorite.

i have both a teknic and icon jacket. I like my icon jacket better it seems more substancial, but both are good.

if you are worried about it being hot

1. look for perferated leather
2. maybe a differet color other than black. (not as hot and more visible)

You hit the nail on the head. I was wondering if it was one of those companies, lol. Now that we've offended half of the board, are the tour masters jacket considered cheap?

Naw everybody on the Motorcycle board is pretty laid back...We all joke around! They are just opinions and we are all from different areas and have different tastes.

Man I am just so offended!! I'm not posting on here at all anymore.

I ride a Kawasaki, you think I haven't heard my **** talked down to before. It's the most overHated bike on the road.

In the end just pick a few that you like and try them on. I pretty much bought mine while trying to be blind to brand name, but the 990 was super comfy and there are a good selection of leather and textile pants that I can attach to it (be careful most brand zppers will not work for other brands). I have to have the 360 for track days and I didnt want to have to buy two leather jackets.

I think in your climate a perforated jacket may be the best.

P.S. Anyone know where to get an Altezza taillight for a ZX6R?

Right next to the dub-deuce blingy-blang spinnaz, jigga!

Just got an Icon Timax from theSyndicate yesterday. It's a good around town summer-time jacket(not recommended for longer trips or track events). Good vents and ventilation. Padding's sufficient. Icon seems to run a little bit smaller, though. from me, especially for the price I paid for it.

you might want to go to a local shop that carries some of this gear to check the fitment, because my roomate went and bought an Icon jacket and 3 weeks later when it came in it didnt fit him. from what the guys at the shop tell me Icons tend to fit really loose. but its all personal preference.

My Timax jacket fits perfect...I am 6ft 200lbs with broad shoulders and was very surprised! It fit looser after I wore it in the rain a couple times

That's weird, because usually I wear a Medium, but this ICON large fits me just about perfect...

Which adds to the point--make sure you try it on before buying!

i've got that exact tour masters jacket. it breathes AMAZINGLY well, just to warn you. in the winter you will have to wear another layer under it, along with the lining it comes with. if it's warm out the jacket is great, when it's cold out and you ahve the lining on, the lining just feels really cold, but if it's cool out and you dont have the lining, you feel about 1000 jets of cold air on your arms and uper chest b/c of all the perf leather sections. dont get me wrong, here in florida it's a great leather jacket, just be warned you might want a warmer jacket for the winter

... thats all assuming you get the perforated version of that jacket, w/ the perf sections on the sleaves and upper chest. if not then dont listen to anything i've said.

Yeah, I got the AIR version for the summer. When winter rolls around, I will try and come up with a creative windbreaker that goes around the liner to keep me warm.

I've used my tourmaster jacket for 4 years and I am happy with it. Used it in the rain and was impressed with how it kept me dry. Except for when I didnt have the collar on right and it leaked there.

I have a textile jacket with vents and liners. Not leather. was $250
