hello im a noOb and i have a problem. i just recieved an H22 from japan and i was under the asumption that it would fit into a 93 civic, i mean i even bought the mounts for it. PROBLEM IS this thing is to long by like 6-7 inches. now i believe that if i convert it to standard i will save like 2-3 inches BUT it still wont fit.
SO MY QUESTION IS 1) why do they sell mounts if this thing doesnt even fit,, and 2) is there any way besides weilding that i can get this motor to fit????? (i.e. by like taking parts off and replaccing them with different ones)

You didn't check properly then because there are numerous people who've complete the swap. If you search I believe there is an FAQ somewhere about h22 into a civic. I believe user "poison" started the thread because he has an h22 in his civic.

actually i am a noOb duh!!!

however i had professional mechanics tell me that i would not fit, personally i belive that i would but i was told it wouldnt' thats why im asking Y!

u should find mechanics who know what they are talking about first off. and mechanics who probably specialize in honda/acura's mostly...

 

ok. I have had two EGs with H22's in them. either it fits or I have been stuck in some fantastic hallucination for the last 3 years. it fits, don't argue with me.

I'm guessing that these 'mechanics' you talked to only work on cars with pushrods and carbuerators.

and 93 civics are structurally the same as 95 civics.

92-95 years are all the same....same engine bay...same motors for the different models...same everything. If it fits in a 95 it fits in a 93. Go search and do some research...

 

Your 95 is so similar to that 93 that they are essentially the same car.

It will fit if it's a 5 speed. The automatic transmissions are huge and physically are too big. There are plenty of people on this site that have H22 setups in 92-95 Civics (notice how I've lumped them together; they're basically the same car). The mechanic you asked said no because it's not the original motor and most mechanics won't bother with all the custom fabbing and hassle of putting a non original motor into a car.

 

my sales manager's car is a 93 si hatchback and his jdm h22 fit fine

if you think the h22 doesn't fit, you should try doing the k series for the 1st time

 

the mechanic probably just didn't know any better. can't say I really blame him, thats just not the sort of thing the average mechanic does.

forget it i just found out that the reason it doesnt fit is becuase it is AUTOMATIC so now im **** and im unhappy about this situation. what to do what to do oh i no maybe i should beat the s*** out of this motor. mnn maybe it will fit then

 

just get a manual transmission. I believe there are more than one that fit if money is an issue...

 

or get a manual tranny, clutch, flywheel and some other stuff and sell your auto h22 tranny(you wont get much but you'll get something)

 

first off im not allowed too and secondly and most importantly i dont have the money to waste. i.e. i can just go buy a transmission and covert my automatic car to standard on my budget, i mean come on i just bought an h22 and basically in debt or near so.
well come to think about it does any one want to buy an H22 auto transmission!?!

I hate to say it but you really should have done some research before hand so you knew what you would be getting yourself into with an H22 civic...

It is not a drop-in-and-go type of thing. There is some fabrication that needs to happen to make it fit properly.

If you are already hurting for $ after purchasing the engine you should sell it and for a single cam or something. You are only at the beginning of all the $ you are going to have to spend to put that motor in your car.

 

sounds like H series is pretty much going mainstream if people think they can just buy one and drop it into their civic. does this mean H22 prices are gonna go up?

 

They're already prohibitively expensive. Plus the cost of gas.

but how the hell did you buy a swap and not know what kind of tranny it was?!!!?
It's kind of an important issue dont you think?

Research, research, research....think about buying... and then research more.
(Or at least thats pretty-much my proccess of doing things).
