New Tire Offerings from Dunlop
This question popped up in another thread...I decided to start a new one in case people have related questions....

I know you make the direzza dj01 or whatever it is called or the fm901 already.
</TD></TR></TABLE>
I know in the mind of a lot of people, the Azenis & RS-2's are an "all-out" auto-x or track tire. Yes, the tread designs do appear to be built for all out dry traction, however they are still street tires.
The Direzza DZ101 is Dunlop's offering in this segment, it is priced competatively with the Falken, Hankook, Kumho, Toyo, Nitto, and others. It will be replacing the FM901. This tire is a vast improvement over the FM901 in wet traction and noise.

If you're after a "real" auto-x or track tire...might I recommend the Dunlop SP Super Sport Race which is our DOT legal road racing tire.

This tire is molded to 7/32" tread depth (most street tires are 10/32's) to increase tread stiffness and help to generate less heat in race-type conditions. Plus, the tread compound was developed by the Dunlop Race Tire group. This tire comes in 17" & 18" sizes. The treadwear rating on this tire is marked "60"...so you can see what I'm getting at.
If a DOT legal road racing tire isn't what you're after, the new Dunlop SP Sport Maxx might be a better choice. This is our max-performance high-end offering. It's positioned to compete with the PS2, S0-3, and Eagle F1 GS-D3. This tire will eventually be replacing the SP9000. I can't tell you why I know this (
) but I can tell you that this tire is as fast around a dry course and faster in the wet than the PS2 or S0-3. In fact, the SP Sport Maxx just finished #1 in a Tire Rack test against the S0-3 & PZero Rosso.

I've actually had the chance to get behind the wheel on Dunlop's test track and take the Direzza's & SP Sport Maxx for a spin on my own. I was very impressed by both of them, and will share more about that in another thread in the future.
If anyone has ?'s that I didn't answer in this thread, please ask!!
Thanks
Matt

very cool! Will there be much if any price change with the dz101 compared to the fm901s?
a quieter one of them would be awesome for my backup rims

stan</TD></TR></TABLE>
The SP Sport Maxx will be released in 205/50R16 & 225/50R16 sizes by mid-2005...in addition to the existing 16" fitments. Keep in mind that this is Dunlop's "flagship" offering...a max performance tire. The majority of these sizes are from 17" to 20" sizes. This tire comes as an option OE fitment on some Audi & VW vehicles. The 15" & 16" segment will be targeted by the Direzza.

The Sport Maxx's are priced to compete with the PS2's, S0-3's and Eagle F1's of the world. This is more expensive than a Kumho, Toyo, Nitto, Hankook, or Falken...but technology that went into the development of this tire is reflected in the price. This is hands down the best performance tire Dunlop makes right now...and arguably the best max-performance tire on the market according to the Tire Rack's recent test results...

The Direzza's are priced nearly identically to the FM901's, so no...there will not be a significant price difference. This tire is much better with respect to tread pattern noise, much more work was done on rib shifting to eliminate harmonic frequencies generated by the tire that would be a nuisance to the driver.
If anyone has more questions, keep them coming!
