Don't modify the car... modify your driving ability. Get new tires when you wear those out.

thats the thing. this is my daily driver and so they are my daily driven tires. so i autoX on them and drive around on the street on bald tires or just do it right from the start and buy a second set? i am just worried about how long ziex will last. if the last like 4 sessions then i will need to buy new tires about every other month and that is not going to save any money.

You should at least try a session of autocross on the ziex's before deciding if they are going to wear two quickly. From first-hand experience of seeing a friend run those exact tires I would say it's not going to be an issue. I highly doubt you will wear out a set of street tires after four autocrosses.

I got 3 autocrosses and a practice day out of my stock XGT V4s before I killed them, but they probably only had 2/32 left when I started, and if the shoulder's weren't cracking, I could probably still be using them.

No, he's saying he had a set of tires that were pretty much dead when he started, and still got 3 autocrosses out of them.
If you want some idea of tire durability, my last set of Kumho MXs, which would wear pretty quickly in relation to a Ziex 512 lasted 16 autocrosses and 2 track days. They still had a little life left in them when I took them off, but not enough for another track day, which is why I pulled them.

dude, even high grip, low tread life "R" compounds usually last alteast a season or two of autocrossing.. and that's with some people driving them to and from the "track"..
i used falken azenis for 2 years autoxing and daily driving.. still have enough tread on 'em..

When I first bought my car it had Energy MXV4s and I put 20,000 miles of driving and 3 autocrosses on them before they needed replacment, and they were 4 year old tires at the time I bought the car.

(Just so others don't get confused) That's because you drive an ultra light low HP car. Add 500lbs and double the HP and you'll start seeing a lot more tire wear.
Like many others in this topic, I too started on those horrid V4s from the factory.

Barring your doing something just really dumb, like locking up the brakes for a REALLY long time and flatspotting the hell out of your tires, you should be fine on what you have. Autocross does accelerate tire wear, but you're not going to show up at an event and destroy a perfectly good set of street tires.
Try autocross, and see if it's for you, before you throw down on new wheels and tires.
