Default TRANNY IS WASTED.......

I appreciate all the help so far guys, but I just found out today my tranny is beyond repair and I need to buy a new one.

they want $1750 for a new USDM tranny, when mine had the JDM FD in it. My R is making a little over 200 wheel, so what do you all think I should do?

I have been told by some dealership mechanics that with my amount of power i might get more out of a LS tranny. And what about pricing.... anyone on here that can get ahold of a JDM tranny or USDM (i will suck up the FD I guess) for less than that?

Any thoughts i would appreciate.

Whoever said you are making too much power for an ITR tranny with only a little over 200whp is just straight up stupid. That has to be the most retarded thing I have ever heard.

Buy an ITR tranny don't listen to the idiots

He didnt say that he was making too much power for the ITR tranny. What he said was that the gearing of the ls tranny may be better for the power he was making.....

.....just tell the dealership that you're getting a brand new usdm itr tranny and they can install it.

Then sell your final drive to someone else. Upgrade final drive later.....

Yeah, close gearing rocks, well except on the highway, the exhaust drone is a little obnoxious

There's a least one JDM tranny on ebay currently.

What exactly is wrong with the tranny? You want to sell it?

$1,600 is a good price. The 98 Spec ITR tranny usually goes for $1,500 alone.

don't buy ls transmission, that would be a step down.

i would just try to get new itr transmission that never been messed with, i read b16 has same gearing, so may b16 + lsd from your old tranmission? - but i'm not sure if everything is exactly same in b16 minus lsd.

and make sure they use the right tranmsission fluid on install. how bout good old honda mtf??

as for pricing, i wouldn't buy a used transmission for 1500-1600 if you can buy a new one for 150 more.

Nothin for nothin and I could be totally wrong but it sounds like the idiots that told you to go with an LS tranny A) don't know what they're talking about, and B) just want your damaged tranny for themselves.

And why would you suck up the Final Drive? When you have it removed, it's yours, keep the fuggin thing. You aren't trading it. You're buying a new tranny, you get to keep the old chit.

Hell, you could even tell them to do the FD swap if you're so inclined, it's not gonna be a warrenty thing is it? As long as you're footin the bill keep all the parts and do whatever you want.

200 WHP does NOT warrant a step down to a longer LS tranny.

Sorry I don't have an answer for you entirely. Just don't get yourself fuxored when you do this man. Sounds like you got some silly advice from some crappy stealership mechanics.

I wouldn't purchase a transmission from ebay at all...thats basically gambling...
I can vouch for brian...you know that you'll get the tranny and it works.
