Default Looking at a NEW accord.

My dad is looking at a new accord, and I was just wondering the mileage people here are getting with the V6 vs the I4 model. How comftorable is it? Are the heated seats worth it? Any features on the car that he should for sure get? Hes going to be traveling around fixing CNC machines, and hes going to be driving between 3 states, so is there anything you would reccomend?

Have any of you had any major problems with your car in the first 100,000 miles?

And if he doesn't end up getting the accord, anyone want to reccomend any other cars? Hes also looking at the Hyundai Sonota, but I really don't want him to get that. The gas mileage isn't quite as good, and it doesn't make anywhere near the power.

Thanks

if your dad is gonna be driving around fixing stuff.. esp BETWEEN STATES, definitely go with i4 since you dont need enormous amounts of power just cruising down teh freeway (esp if you are mpg-conscious). my manual i4 gets 29 when i beat on it a bit, and 32 when im really careful. my aunt's auto v6 gets 24mpg average. DONT BUY KOREAN. please

oh also.. if your dad is gonna be lugging around tools and stuff, sedan is the way to go since you will have more, and more accessible, cargo space

I have an '04 Accord V6; I get 22 - 24 mpg around town, and 25 - 30 on the highway. It is a great car in every way - I can't recommend it enough.

However, given the miles your Dad will be driving, can he spend a few more bucks for the hybrid?

With CA gas prices, every mpg counts, and he could average low 30's mpg with even more horsepower than the gas model. The 40% increase in mpg may just justify the price difference if he is a high mileage driver...

E.g. 25k miles a year at 34 mpg vs. 24 mpg = 307 fewer gallons at $2.70 per gallon = $829/year times 5 years = $4145.

I think the EX V6 vs. Hybrid difference is roughly $5,000, so the difference is pretty close.

Food for thought....

I would look at a TSX instead. If I buy another Accord there is a good chance I will get the TSX instead.

You could try the new hybrid Accord. It's a V6 and has lots of low end torque with VERY good gas mileage from the hybrid (37 highway 29 city!)

For long highway driving this is a definite plus, and it makes more low end torque than the normal V-6 does so he wont be missing anything

Yup I do like the Accord Hybrid also and would probably look at that. I still think the best one is the TSX though which I have read is what the Accord is in Japan.

I'm trying to talk him out of the Sonota. Hes trying to go cheap and get all these features, but it just doesn't make sense to me. Hes going to be driving this car 5 days a week on LONG trips, and hes worried about saving 4-5 grand? I don't know that much about hyundai, but I do know a lot about honda, and I know that the accord will run forever. Plus the V6 accord gets better gas mileage then the V6 Sonota, actually the accord V6 gets almost as good of gas mileage as the I4 Sonota! And the I4 accord only makes 10 less HP and 10 less tq then the V6 Sonota.

My dad was impressed by the interior, but I'm not impressed by the engine at all. Those kind of power numbers compared to hondas is just lame.

I'm going to try to get him to test drive a fully loaded accord V6. Then he'll see how fast/nice of a car the new accords are.

EDIT: I forgot to mention, hybrids aren't an option. My dad works on all his cars himself, and he doesn't want to try to work on a hybrid
