all right guys i am going to change my oil today to 0w30 castrol. i have heard some stuff about it. the question i have for the R owners is it okay to use on a dyno for an hour or so. i want to squeeze every last bit of power out of my setup, but i don't wanna hurt anything. any help would be great. thanks.

any notice compared to other oils. i have heard that you can actually "feel" a difference? so no problems huh? thanks for the response.

So your looking for #s and not usable power ?
Worry about the smoothness of your power, and that entails using oil that you would normally use and let the tuner do his thing.

i am really just concerned about trying this oil out and maybe sticking to it all the time. i just changed it and it seems to have less valvetrain noise. maybe it's jsut me, but it seems less noisy. let me drive it for a few days then i'll let you guys know.

compared to what exactly? you realize those viscosity ratings aren't exactly equal between manufacturers

Recommended for R owners = 5w30
ABove, he want to use 0w30. Comparison is between these 2 grades of oil, keeping brands/manufacturers aside

actually i work in the oil industy and i had a customer driving a mercedes m-class suv running 5w30 syntec and requested mobil 1 0w40. he said he wanted to quite the valvetrain noise at start up. i thought the same thing about the thinner oil. sure enough though, it was less noisy. i couldn't believe it. and mine got less noisy also. i dunno. i think i am going to be pretty happy with it.

Thinner?! No it's not. 0w30 German Castrol is nearly a 40 weight oil once its up to temp. I forget the cSt @ 100 Celcius on it. Go to the link above that I posted and do some homework.

General consensus is that German Castrol 0w30 is much thicker and is less likely to shear at high temps than your typical 5w30. I didn't notice any change in my valvetrain noise when i switched though. At least my car doesn't seem to guzzle oil as fast with the GC.
