Use PB Blaster if you have problems getting the nut(s) off. Otherwise, use grease when you put it back together so it's smooth, although I never did.

No, no, no. WD-40 isn't grease, it's water displacer. You need to find some lithium grease or something of that sort to pack into the contact points on your shifter. You'll need a 10mm socket, a 12mm socket, probably a 10 or 12mm box-end wrench and - at least I use this - a 10 inch extension for my 3/8ths ratchet.

you need grease to put i around the ball part of the new shifter, to keep it shifting nicely, also you might need a new plasitc piece that goes around that ball part on the shifter if its broken when u take it off the oem one.
Just did mine yesterday. I took off my road race shifter and put my old short shifter in. Just disconnect the shifter from the shift linkage and drop down the entire stabilizer bar (for lack of the right word) from the chassis and tranny. From there it's cake. Look underneath, you'll know exactly what you'll need and what to do.

As it was brought to my attention by our moderators with post deletion notification. I thought I should give some pertinent information on this subject.
The change rod and shifter connecting bolt should be tightened to 16lb-ft as well as the rear extension bolts. The two nuts holding the change ball holder and change extension should be 7lb-ft. This info provided by B&M in their instructions.
