Default GSR axles work for H22 eg swap?

I'm swapping an h22 into an EG.
Before I get flamed to hell, I did order the hybrid axles that are supposed to go with the h22/eg, but received the wrong ones... So now I have to ship them back and wait for the new axles to arrive.
Well, I happened to have a set of newer model GSR axles sitting around in my garage and figured "what would it hurt", I tried putting them on the car and they actually fit. I did not expect the inners to connect to the prelude tranny, but somehow they did... And the axles seem like they will not bind.
I have not driven the car with these axles yet because I've still got some wiring/exhaust work to do. The most I did was back out of my garage... and well, the car moved but I don't know the risks involved in running this combination.

Has anyone heard of this working? Its a temporary fix, but will it work for now until I get the correct axles?

Thanks for the help.

I've never heard of anyone successfully running GSR axles with an H22 EG...what mount kit are you using? how much shaft play do you have with those axles?

if you live somewhere that you can get away with it, you could always drive down the road a little to see if they bind. I don't think its likely to cause any sort up serious damage even if they don't fit well. I could be wrong.

EDIT: oh wait, you don't have the swap done yet. I don't think those axles will work.

I'm using the HCP mount kit. There isn't much shaft play with them, they seem to fit pretty good.

The car is running and I'll probably take it for a drive today to see what happens.
I guess nobody has done this... thats probably not a good thing for me

I think the 94-up gsr axles will be too long. Probably a lot of binding. The axles will fit into the prelude tranny, just have to strecth the ring thing on the axles inner shaft. It think that 92-93 gsr axles will fit. Let us know how it goes.

Well I drove around town for just about a half hour tonight. It seems like the axles are working fine. I had to rig a small section of pipe to make the exhaust bolt up so it was a little noisey but nothing noticable was happening with the axles. To be honest with you I dont know what to look for to see if an axle is binding, will it make a strange noise, or hard to turn?

The car is actually my brothers, but I do a lot of his work and we are building it together... Tonight is the first time I've driven (or been in) an h22 hatch, and damn I'm STILL smiling!!

Anyways, I THINK the axles are from a 94+ but I will verify that tomorrow.

Thanks for the input, LMK if you've got any more suggestions/comments.

if the axles are binding they will make a knocking/clicking noise and vibrate under acceleration and especially when turning.

Thanks, I guess I should have known that.

Going to buy an alternator belt today so I can drive around for longer to listen for any problems... I'll have the other axles in a week or so (come to find out, I ordered the wrong ones, but they are going to exchange out for the correct axles)

Well they are off a 94+ (01 I believe) gsr tranny, but it was swapped into an EG so I'm not sure which axles were used.

I think GSR EGs get to use the stock GSR axles because the EG and the DC2 chassis are so similar (almost exactly the same in fact)

They will bolt in but they're gonna bind like mad, too long. I know, I've tried it ...

For me was pretty much right away. It was subtle at first but try taking any corners or having 1 or 2 passengers and you'll really notice. Your axle needs will depend on what midshaft your using.

90-93 Integra axles will work in an h22 civic, 94-01 integra axles wont.

All depends on what midshaft you use ... if you use the accord midshaft, the 90-93 teggy axles will work. If you use the H22 midshaft, you have to make custom ones. (86-89 teggy axles with H22 inners)

Well I'm using the prelude midshaft, and today I got the exhaust welded up so I can actually hear whats going on with the car now... And no vibration or any other noises.

These are still temporary though, I'm sending the others back this week to exchange for the hybrid axles (then I'll be looking into some stronger ones )

If anything happens I'll let you all know, so far so good though.

LOL

I went through that one as well, I had nothing but header and downpipe and fark me was it a long ride to my fab shop. Good to hear your gonna get the right axles, I got my beefier set from Raxles, Marty's a good guy

I find it really odd that your current ones aren't binding .... mine did and then some.

95 H22A
95 H22A Midshaft
98 Teggy axles

So far so good. I did notice a little noise coming from up front, but I believe it was the crappy suspension.

Oh wait... update - mildly modded gst's cant keep up.
