yeah i saw those when i was headed out at the gas station just outside the track... they didnt look so good to me .... then again i didnt have any either.
Let me explain they are VERY GROSS!! When we moved here from Ohio I asked one of my southern buddies WTF these things were. They take a whole peanut and boil it in a salt water and something else mix in the shell and then you eat the peanut out of the soggy shell and it tastes like a really gross and soggy bean. They are very nasty. They are disgusting, I about put some of my lunch on my desk when I tried them.

Moved from OH myself. I shudder at the thought, but LOTS of southerners like them.

wonder if they would taste better if you ate the shell too??? Probably couldn't taste as bad as they look.

The best nuts in Alabama are Pecans-I care not how they are cooked as long as they aren't mushy. Peanuts come different ways and that is just the way they are. You have to acquire the taste or be born with it I suppose. I'm a 'bama native raised in the north-so who am I to say which is better. I hate Okra in succotash
-but breaded and fried--yummy

Damn good thing the Confederates lost the war, or they might be selling that crap at Disneyland. Then again, it'd be nice if fried okra were a bit easier to find out here...
Boiled peanuts can be great and they can be horrible. Same as with grits.. I've had some horrible grits in my day.
Generally the farther north you are, the worse they taste (at least it's seemed that way).. but that's been changing lately.. quality has been going down (or getting more spotty) even in the south. Last time I had some they were nearly gag-worthy.. but I still get hungry thinking about boiled peanuts in general.
<homer voice> Mmmmm... 'Bohled' peanuts.. </homer voice>

If you can track down some decent boiled peanuts and domestic beer you've got the makings of a nice, relaxing Sunday afternoon
Christian, who never realized he was "southern" until this thread...

Y'all just haven't done it right.
You're supposed to float 'em in an RC, then drink it and occasionally you get a peanut with a swallow.
Boiled peanuts are right up there with fatback and cracklin' cornbread!

I love salty boiled peanuts, but then I also grew up in Macon, GA. You don't eat the outside part, just crack it off, and eat the soft part inside. Yumm, yumm.

Boiled peanuts are really good, I have never had them soggy, usually they roast them after boiling them I buy them at trader joe's and they are a lot cruncher then normal peanuts and taste really good.
