in a dilemma...what would u do?
for those who don't know i've been looking for tyres for months now and in australia i've ran into these problems... im on the stock rims 15"
semi-slicks no good due to random rain in all seasons
dunlop SP Sport 9000 - 16" and above
toyo t1r - 16" and above
goodyear eagle f1 gs-d3 - 16" and above
bridgestone - s03 16" and above (damn i really wanted these)
nankang's - non my size
pirelli - ha! the name's worth more than my car
hankook's - can't find the stupid australian site
michelin -pliot sports 17" and above
falken's????? im not sure
i was really looking forward to the kumho ecsta mx's they came just this month and only come in 17" and 18"
so my last resort was the yokohama es100 which seem like a great tyre until today...
i went to a bridgestone tyre centre and i asked for a quote and it was $190 per wheel...to which i also found out there is still 100 RE010 left in australia going for $220 each...i asked if they stop making them (this is what everyone has been saying) and he said they should be still around because the those tyres still come stock on certain cars...however at other bridgestone tyre centres they told me they stopped making them...
my question is do you think it's safe getting the RE010? i know they are a great tyre, but since they have stopped making them, these leftover RE010 would have been lying around for a while...maybe? this would have harden the rubber right?
maybe he was bias in saying this but, he said the yoykohama es100 were not that good and were about the same as bridgestone g3's (for those who don't have it in there country it is the new and improved version of the old bridgestone 711's)

do you think it's worth it to get the re010's, probably being lying around and at $220? also how many km's did you guys get on those? i never had the luck to drive with those baby's on when i bought my r 2nd hand
so i wouldn't know... they don't last as long as es100 right?
and if not go with the es100's? or with the g3's which are slightly cheaper...?
im waiting for the finacial year to end so the sales start anyhow

Dude,
no good tyres come in Aus in 16's for the ITR size. The best are in JDM land.
Be content with
Dunlop DZ101
Bridgestone GIII
Toyo T1R
Falken RT215 (but by the sounds of it you want a reasonable wet tyre).
ES100's are ok if you dont mind the wear (most get around 12-15000km)
Semi's in 16's are only in 205/50/16 - so if you're already running an oversized tyre... this size has a few more tyre options.
205/55/16 would give you most tyres (and same rolling diameter as a 17") but will slow you down.

Do you guys get different ES100's? I think I have 20000 miles on mine and they are maybe half worn.. hell I might have 25k or more really, I don't remember.

yeah man it really sucks
i've heard that the toyo t1r has really soft side walls and that they feel like butter when it comes to steering response...
should i get the re010? probably dried up though....

thx for the input
does anyone else have any comments?
i know re010 are probably the best tyre for the stock rim, but are they worth it if the rubber has been hardened?
also how many km's if u please
also any experience g3 versus es100?

ES100's will definately not perform as well verses the 010's. I've never had G3's, so I couldn't tell you. Will this be for daily driving purposes only? If you're going to do any track event, I'd steer clear of the ES100's. I'd personally think the RE010's will be your best bet...or upgrade to 16"
yeah it's for street use at the moment and i was hoping to see maybe one track day on the new tyres...
i really would like to upgrade to 16" but just really short on cash at the moment
thx for you input though
