Default Tranny Problem

I have a 94 4 door LS, and the other night i was racing my friend's EP. I shifted into 3rd and the gear grinded pretty bad, but i know i had the clutch all the way in. After that, i shifted straight into 4th just to cruise around, and then went to downshift to slow down, and i put it in 3rd, but it was still 4th gear. Now, i can move the shifter freely between 3rd, neutral, and 4th gear, but no matter what, i cannot shift out of 4th gear. Also, the shifter won't go to the sides at all (no 1st or 2nd, or 5th or reverse). The car still starts, and the clutch engages when pushed in. What's wrong?

My bet is that you damaged the shift forks inside of the tranny. If you can engage/disengage the clutch you can rule the clutch out.

would it be easier (cheaper) to replace the forks, or just get a whole new tranny (i do want a YS3 tranny right now, but am very short for cash)
