Default Getting tranny rebuilt

Well the tranny's been having a slight whine now for the past 7 months, but I figured I would just drive it till it blew up and well it finally happened. It was never bad so I wasn't worried about it.

I was drivign the other night, car started clicking and then I pulled over, and pumped the clutch and put it in and out of all gears to see how it felt.

Went in fine and clutch is great (tranny has been pulled so I know clutch and flywheel are fine). Anyway, went to pull away again and all i got was horrible grinding and went no where (clutch fully engaged). Tranny should be rebuilt and back by today or tomorrow. My mechanic at Agile, and I agree its sounds like the LSD went. I will keep you all posted. I had no idea a new gear box was $1750. Hopefully it wont need that and I will get away with no more than $1500 out the door.

I had it coming so I can't complain. Just wanted to keep you all posted. And it should be up and running again for the Sushi Fest May 14-15th in Maryland if anyone is going!

$1500 for a rebuild ?

You should have called Len and got a price for a new unit.

I'll be interested to hear the diagnosis....sounds like you may have sent all that torque straight to the counter-shaft just as i did. If so you may have broken several teeth and it just took it this long for some metal to finally break more components. I paid $650 for my rebuild....you could have also purchased one new for what you will pay dood! Next time post before you give it to the Stealership

I'm pretty sure he is referring to the parts to rebuild his old tranny for 490.
1500, yeah thats a lot, I would have gotten a new type r tranny for that price.
If you're having issues, I would spend the 1k for the quaife

no $490 for pulling it and putting it back in (labor). Then i will be paying around 1500 or more for the other company to rebuild it. so I am looking in total of around $2000 for all of this ****.....

Yea I wish I had talked to you guys first...

No offense but you're getting rape without lube dude ... and you said that you know the guys that own the local shop (man, what would be the cost if you didn't know them)

Good luck on the outcome and don't forget to get a second opinion before you do things (I know some of us have to learn the hard way )

Unless you feel 100% confident in the mechanic, then yes. To me, peace of mind for a brand new warranteed tranny is worth the change back to the 4.4FD.
