Z6 or B16A1
88-91 Performance Engine, VTEC, 1st Gen, 160hp, engine only
B16A1 1.6 4cyl $650
-or-
92-95 Civic, Del Sol, SOHC, 16 Valves, VTEC, EX, Si D16Z6 1.6 4 $650
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thats copied from the Nippon site. The root of my question is as to why this B-series costs the same ammount as the D-series. I know with the z6 Id have to buy an a6 cable transmission (I have a 91 crx dx, w/stock b2). Could I use the same a6 tranny, or even my stock hydro?
It seems pretty tempting to go B-series now. For a while I've been wanting to buy a Z6 and put lots of money into rebuilding it so it could handle Turbo and lost for a good amount of time (since this car would be DD as well). But now rebuilding a B16 for NA or even Turbo'ing it seems like it would be fun (and get way more power)
Anyways, can someone shed some light on this situation? Main concern is cost.
Much appreciated HT

you cant use a d series tranny or mounts for the b.
you need a complete swap... and hasport mounts and linkage, and teg axles.
to get it in the car the right way, your looking at 2200-2500 depending on if you do the work yourself or not.
the z6 is much cheaper and much less power output, but it would use your oem mounts, and for that engine you would keep your SI tranny, the only tricky part of that swap is the obd1 conversion, but theres guys on HT that make harness for like 150 or so, its not too hard.
thats about the rundown for you. also if you buy a z6 dont bother with the tranny it comes with, that wont bolt into an ef, and theres nothing you can use to make it work, its all custom for a d series hydro in an ef. so buy just the engine if you can.
so your decision is going to be determined on weather you have 1000 or so for this car, or 2300 or so for your car.
get it? as far as buildups and actual power potnetial, that would turn into a huge argument bewteen the b and d guys. but thats what your looking at basically.

thats what I figured. its just ive seen the b series go for waaaaay more than 650, but that may be due to no tranny included.
Looks like ill be sticking with D

650.... thats going to be long block only, no tranny, ecu or rear bracket. you be missing a lot
places have that for guys who need replacement blocks if they throw a rod or need oem parts for whatever reason.

I paid about 1g for each of my OBD0 motors. without trannies, and without shipping. I don't mind paying that much cause i trust where I buy them from.
Any D-series trans will bolt up to any D-series motors. same as any B to B.
I would stick to the D-series since your car came with a D-series so not much is needed to change out, but your tranny may hamper your accelleration. I would try to get an Si tranny.
so far my B- series is about 1k for motor. 600 for mounts/linkage. 55 for wiring. 250 for new gaskets. 500 for new sensors. 400 for waterpump. so yah... you don't have to go as far as I did. but i'd rather not deal with things 1 year down the road.
