Default Wheel bearing problems... maybe??

Alrighty, well I have been driving my sisters car lately since she now lives out of the contry and recently (over the past month off and on, then it has been happening all the time the last 2 days) the car has been making a sort of scraping / rubbing sort of metalic sound in the front end. The sound isnt continuous... it's sorta like err errr errr errr errr errr errr... yeah... lol The car makes the noise whenever it is moving, it will continue making the noise with the clutch diengaged, and when I pull it out of gear and just coast. I decided today I'd go ahead and change the break pads and change out the axles (autozone rebuilds) since that all needed done anyway... I also went ahead and threw some coilovers and wheels on it for the heck of it. I was hoping the noise would be coming from the axle... but no. It's still making the noise. I'm guessing it could be the wheel bearing, however it seems to spin freely and doesnt have any play whatsoever when grabing the wheel and moving it around...

Basically, is it possible for a wheel bearing to be making the noises, but not have any play?

its possible for them to make noise with no play, however my car did the EXACT same thing last week, and what the problem was the brakes were worn, and the tab rubbed anytime, but the caliper had worked its way loose on the top cause they previous owner was stupid and used loctite on it. so, try tightening those bolts and bend the brake tabs back. see if it stops.

so it makes the noise with the clutch pushed in but not when its out? Could be a tranny bearing or the throw out bearing as well if the noise changes with the clutch?

I'll check the bolts behind then brake tabs

The car makes the noise if the clutch is pushed in, or even if it's not. Basically any time it's moving it makes the noise. I was thinking because the wheel bearings didnt seem to have any play it could be somehow transmission related ? maybe ? I dont know...

yeah any of these ideas sound good. mine made no difference with the clutch, and would sometimes go away when i applied the brakes

i dunno if this is the same but something like this has happened to my crx.
when i start going above 40mph the front sounds like something is rolling, almost a winding noise. when im going 70 it gets so loud and feels as if the wheels are going to fall off. its even worse when making turns. can this be a wheel bearing problem too?

this is what is exactly wrong with my crx.. I am getting both front wheel bearings replaced next week.... It'll be cheap since I work for a Honda dealer..

yeah my rear drivers side wheel bearing is done. The thing is so loud and vibrates crazy when giving it more than partial throttle. I drove on it for a while now my F.D.G. family memeber is fixing it. I got a weird new noise, that sounds like grinding, wondering if something else was damaged. Or is it that the wheel bearing got worse.

if your car has over 150,000, replace the wheel bearing anyways.. they are vital !
The car will run so much smoother too !

Now that is something I never even though of... The noise has just stayed the same over the last month and I havent really been worrying about it, plus I bought myself another car, so this one isnt getting as much road time anymore. maybe I'll just replace everything possible in the front end... that'd have to fix whatever is making the stupid sound... lol

Defenetely going to check on the rotors... that'll be easier than doing the bearings, eventhough I should probably do them anyway... the thing has 186k miles on it
