Im New to Hondas help??
OK, i just bought a 1989 honda accord carburated 2.0 12 valve 5spd. Excellent condition. One of the problems is that it idles high when started, then it goes too low. and after i shut it off the engine "diesels"(runs after shut off) and the acceleration stinks and there is a flat spot in the throttle(% opening where theres no power gain). I kind of want a bigger carb, and better airflow. im thinkin weber? do they make one? or is a carb rebuild kit worth it.
OK ill check that. I think im going to go to a junkyard and find an old carb, rebuild it then put it on there. Has anyone done any port matching on this head/ intake? is a header worth it? does anyone make an exhaust specifically for the accord?
and whats the engine code??
srry about all of the questions, i just want to know as much as all of you guys.

tirst of all dopey not to hrt your intelligence but what the hell is an airflow/fuel mixture pump??? there is no such thing on a 1989 accord....as for the car idling high when started it is your fast idle it is suppose to start higher idle at start up depends on outside temp it could be anyhhere 1500-3000 rpm .when it goes to normal idle you say it is too low but does the car run enenly by that i mean is there a miss??? those have problem with pcv valve going bad thus it idles lower but you should notice a miss ,,,,,as for dieseling sounds like you idle speed might be too high ,,,,,it sounds to me like this car is got an idle issue ( vacc hose leak, carb dirty ) and someone put the idle higher so car could idle ....you might have some internal carb problems
he means the accelerator pump, which the carb does have...
port matching: not worth it unless you do some mods like the weber (there is a kit for the 32/36, and of course the 38/38 fits, too... weir racing will build a DCOE manifold for you if you want it)
header: pacesetter and S&S make them and are readily available... header FAQ here: http://www.3geez.com/showthread.php?t=37261
exhaust: pacesetter makes one, but the muffler is garbage... a lot of people buy the pacesetter and cut the muffler out and use another aftermarket muffler in place of it...
the engine code is A20A1 for a carbed accord in the US... in canada, you may come accross A20A2 carbed motors... EFI is A20A3 for the norht american market and A20A4 elsewhere

If it is like my '84 accord, you could have a vacuum leak at the base of the carb. I was getting symptoms exactly like what you are describing. My car would also die when I would go around sharp corners w/o giving her gas. I had to take the carb off and replace the insulator at the base. Good luck.
davelux the base plate is different starting 86 accords they don't leak i should say i have never seen one leak ,,, it is not like the 84-85 that the middle part is made of rubber kind material and it cracks and eventually leak ,,,sounds like that might be some carburator issues

Well i will eventually want to do a weber conversion, but for now im going to just rebuild a stock carb. should i do an exhaust or carb first? will any of those headers fit the rest of the stock exhaust? i would obviously put on a full exhaust, but i would like to be able to drive it in between.
