Yea, so just another $500 and you're good to go.

Considering he's probably got less than $300 into the swap already, I don't think this is the solution he was looking for... especially after going to the trouble to hack up his pre-OBD dizzy.

Three basic options that I know of...
-Summit Racing RPM activated switch
-VAFC
-TurboEdit

Just remember that you need something to adjust fuel maps above your crossover point. Otherwise you're not really accomplishing anything.

Save the cash and get the OBD-1 conversion harness, p28 ecu, 4 wire o2 sensor and the obd1 vtec dizzy. Do it the right way.

Save the cash? The most expensive option I suggested is less than half the price of a full OBD1 conversion.

You can engage VTEC with TurboEdit and tune with nearly the accuracy of Hondata for around $50.

my last project was a gsr swap into an 89 civic 4dr.. i had a full custom harness with ecu adapter made from locashracing.com....that set me back a few bucks because the car was a dx so they had to wire the other injectors...but since this car is an si they have an obd0-obd1 ecuadapter for 169..obd0-obd1 distributor adapter for 25...and an engine sub-harness for 65..so figure 259+tax..im not really sure what to do this time..what you guys think?

Using the harness price you mentioned...
-Harness -- $259
-Distributor -- $150
-O2 Sensor -- $50
-ECU -- $150

-Total -- $609

If you've got that kind of money to spend, the OBD1 conversion is the best route to go. However, I personally would never spend that much cash to run a $100 head.

I chose to go the TurboEdit route, but my motor is still being built (A6 bottom end is getting a full rebuild) so I can't give you specifics about this option. I do know that there are already a couple of other guys using TurboEdit for preOBD VTEC. Search here or at PGMFI.org and see what you come up with.

For all practical purposes, the blocks are identical, anyway.

http://www.jkobd.com

You can use your SI harness. Just plug in the OBD0-OBD1 Conversion harness from jkobd, buy the OBD1 distributor plugs (or purchase from jkobd/rywire.com), and add the VTEC wires.

That's the easiest and correct way to do it.

ok I did this same swap. It is NOT going to cost you $600 to convert to obd1. p/u an obd1 dizzy for $50, and get the obd-0 to obd-1 conversion harness I got mine for $95 shipped. get a 4 wire 02 sensor and the ECU (P28) and ur good to go. Trusst me do it the RIGHT way, the way the motor was MEANT to run it will save you a lot of hassle in the long run. Besides, VAFCs are like $3-400 anyways.

great advice!

i was looking into something to lead me into turning to TE for a SOHC Vtec in a EF. Now that you mention it i wonder why i didnt think of it in the 1st place.

PM6 ECu = $60
PBD0 kit= $15
Turbo edit= Free
EEprom burner=$50 shipped ( willem )

Doing it yourself and saving lots of money.... priceless!

You can also buy a pr3 or pw0 ecu. The JDM B16A used this ecu and it will plug into your harness. With this ecu all you have to wire up in the vtec and the vtec solenoid. Vtec wire goes into pin A8. It probably wont have any wire there, it will be empty so just find another harness and take the wire out and connect it to your vtec solenoid. Then connect the Vtec pressure. Connect the black wire to a good ground and the other wire, i believe its orange/blue, connect it in pin B5. I think the wire in B5 is white/yellow. Cut the wire and wire it or take the wore wire out and put another cut wire in. Do that, and you will be set to go. Vtec will kick in.

Yes, but you'll be using a DOHC VTEC ECU for a stock Sohc... never a good situation.

There is nothing wrong with using a DOHC VTEC ecu on a SOHC. I feel more power than with a CIVIC SI (PM6) ecu.

And I also forgot to mention that you have to modify your distributor a little so it can fit. Nothing big, just use a drill and make the hole where the bolt goes at the top of the distributor a little bigger and to the right so the bolt clears because where it threads is a little higher so it doesnt clear. You will see what i mean when you put the distributor in.
