Default -Idle Control Via Throttle Cable?

Well my idel has been dipping lower and lower ove time. Last night I took off the IACV on the back of the manifold and gave it a good clean out. Well put it back on and seems to be idleing alot lower now.

So for temporary I adjusted the throttle cable so it is at about 800-1000rpm now. The cable is not to tight, I only tightened it about 1 turn.

Just want to knwo if this is okay to do, and does the IACV control anything other of the engine than the idle? I knwo they are expensive to replace.

Thanks in advance
