Rembering heroes and a tragic F1 weekend
RIP Roland Ratzenberger and Ayrton Senna.
I never got to meet Senna, it is probably one of my greatest regrets in life. I remember as a kid watching him race on tv, he wasn't cold and calculated like most racers instead he had this love and passion to drive. In 1988 when McLaren Honda was formed I knew the world of racing was about to witness an amazing battle. The top engine manufacturer at the time was now in a very reliable chassis. The two top drivers were teammates and there were no favorites. The 15/16 record still stands as the greatest percentage victory by any team.
Today racing is clinical, you rarely see the raw emotion that Senna had. The Austrian flag folded up in the wrecked Williams still brings a tear to my eye. Senna said if he won the race he would hold aloft the Austrian flag in memory of Roland. Even to this day the rumors and stories of the incident float around, I wish they would put it to rest.
One day I will go down and pay my respects to Senna.

Here, here.
:raises glass:
Watched the race last night/this morning. One of the best F1 races in years, with two of the best drives I've witnessed in years.
Hard to believe it's been what, 10 years? I remember that race. One of my fraternity brothers was a huge Senna fan and we caught F1, and most all ofther racing, whenever we could. There have been few times in my life when I have felt such absolute sorrow and remorse as when Senna passed. Between Senna and Ratzenberger and the wreck that left Lehto and another driver injured, that had to be one of the darkest weekends in all of motorsports history.
I pray none of us ever have to feel that depth of sorrow at the loss of one of our heroes ever again.
I saw that race live on TV, I saw how Senna hit the wall at ~300 km/h. It was strait fast open track with almost max speed and corner to left, but he couldn't torn. WHY? There's no answer till today!
Hit the wall without braking way.......I think it will be usual crash, he just step out of wreck and go to pit stop. But when start come medic, then chopper........and in the evening tragic news.....
