Default '''AEM C2DI box acting up please help.....

It is being used on a 1040 ems box with all 4 coil outputs,on a turbo app.
The car starts and runs, but we can't sinc the timing,it jumps from tdc to 180 and back and forth,it doesnt even clean rev.i have tried multi spark and then tried waste spark and does the same, when i just use one output and one coil it works fine...
using honda cycle coils c.o.p. setup.
the wiring is by the book and used dwell settings that aem tech gave us.
do i need to use sheilded wiring?,could the signal be jumping in the harness?
please help 2 days now and i'm baffled.

I was told not to go by the wiring diagram in the manuel for it has a firingorder of 1 2 3 4 and i need to wire it up to fire 1 3 4 2 can anyone confirm this,or have another diagram that i can go by....

how do you have yours hooked up ?

ECU side(output)----------- C2DI side(input)

A21- coil #1 output ----- white 1
B6- coil #2 output ------ green 2
B3- coil #3 output ------ yellow 3
B4- coil #5 output ------- violet 4

C2DI(output)

coil#1 brown -
tan +

#2 orange-
pink +

#3 blue-
tan +

#4 gray-
pink +

im not sure why, but on the ecu "pinout" diagram for the 1040, it only shows coil outputs for 1,2,3, &5? what is up with that? where is #4?

maybe you can run your #4 injector off of the #5 injector output (pin A8) so that you can use the #5 ign output?

not sure if that would work or not? im sure someone else on here knows more about it.

apparently what i posted above is wrong.

this is what i found on the aem forum

the coil #'s on the right side start at #2,1,3,4 to acheive proper firing order.

If you have everything hooked up right and still having sync problems your air gap could be off in the pick up. Try giving it more of a gap in the dustributer but loosening the phippips head screws in the base of the distributer. There is a little play in there. I use a 1020 box and the cd2i with no sheilded wire and a custom harness and have to problems all the way up to 11500.

do forget that you have to make a few changes in the aem software. you have to turn on the 4 coil outputs that your using, change spark teeth and setup the coil phasing. If you have any questions or problems with the software pm me and I'll send you my cal. I've been running the C.O.P with honda cbr coil sticks for over a year now.

on the 1040 box i use coil 1, 2, 3, 4.. each one corresponds to the same cylinder (makes setting up the calibration easier for me)

you need to turn on coil outputs 1, 2, 3, 4

you need to go find the ignition phase options table

coil 1 12 teeth
coil 2 6 teeth
coil 3 18teeth
coil 4 0 teeth

then you need to go find the option for "Spark Teeth" set that to 24

then goto teh coil dwell wizard and set it for cdi

if you havent moved the dizzy it should start up just as it did w/the distributed spark. the timing should still be right, but make sure to check it with a timing light

ive noticed that there isnt a #4 output for a coil in the wiring schematic for the 1040 box? what gives? just use the #5 output?

Well saturday i wired it up for only 1 coil,I was going to try and use the C.O.P. setup on monday using the new diagram BUT the car did so exceptionaly well on the dyno as well as at the track that i decided to leave well enough alone, like saying goes(if its not broke dont fix it).I know it defeats the purpose of having the CDI but it beats a regular 6AL.....

When you try your COP again, make sure to check your wiring to the diagram again as well as the proper options setup.

If this checks out, log cam and crank signal related parameters at a high rate while the car is running such as T2Per, Crank tooth period, and Cam-Crank. Seeing any timing errors would be a clear indication of where to start looking.

You need to discern if this is wiring related, signal loss, or improper options setup.

If you have any trouble, please PM me.

also make sure to use the pdf file that is installed on ur computer (in c:\programfiles\aem\aempro\instructions\ ) when you install the aem pro software

some of the first cdi's had the wiring diagrams wrong in the printed stuff in the box. also make sure to ground any unused inputs to the cdi.
