Default My thoughts after lightweight flywheel install (b16b, 7.5 pound fly)

Anyways I did alot of reading b4 this was ever installed and I choose to do it anyways. It was going on my daily driver that I will drag race and solo 1 race.

So I took out the stock b16b clutch and flywheel and put in a stage 3 bully clutch and 7.5 pound flywheel.

I was expecting a BIG difference BUT its actually hardly anything to notice. Yes the new clutch grabs more. The rumors of the idle being screwed are bull as if propely installed, your car will idle same as b4. My revs with the stock b16b would drop 1000rpm in between shifts and not shifting any quicker or slower with the 7.5, they drop the same amount. The revs also dont really seem to climb much faster but i can feel it a bit when taking off in first but again, thats a little to do with a stage 3 clutch.

Maybe its cause the itr/ctr flywheel are already lighter but in all, it wasnt a big difference but I am happy. The materials used in the making of the clutch require no break in so thats also good. Car grabd better then b4, drives the exact same, rev's may feel like they go up a bit faster but nothing to call home about.

kenny

Thoght id add a pic of the new bling.

I put in a 9lb flywheel in my all motor B16 and i was not impressed. My buddy put a 12lb and it was way better for the launch since it had more centrifical force to get you off the line. The 9lb for me, was really bad on launches and lost alot of 60ft times. But thats my experience.

We wighted my b16b flywheel and I guess the previous ower must have had it lightened a bit as it was 12 pounds and stock they should be 14.

Im not upset with the flywheel, clutch combo. I mean there is a diff but nothing dramatic at all. I mean if my g/f can get in my car and still rip, w/o needing a few tries then its alright

I guess i was expecting more like my yellow beast. That one only has a 12 pound flywheel but i guess the 450+ is what gets the rpm's moving

Oh well, good times! No rattle, no issues

Hey man I've read some of your other post talking about your beater hatch and you said you put a b16a in it and it was so slow. what happened to tht engine and when did you get the b16b motor.

While a FW will never make a 'huge' difference, it might be worth it to weigh your old clutch set and compare it to your new one (if you can find the weight). You may not have gained or lost any weight in the whole package.

The b16a (2nd gen) ran like a champ, compression was great as was leak down but it burnt oil like a ****. After a 3 hour drive at 130-140km'h it burnt 3.5 liters of oil. This isnt normal. i didnt want to pay to have a tear down and rebuild so i brought it back, got that engine taken out and I went with what i really first wanted. A CTR motor, runs like a dream, obd2 :S Gotta get it back to obd1 so I can hondata it. But the engine feels much like the b16a but you really only notice it from 6200 (stock vtec till 9000)

Great engine. Had the b16b for a month now maybe! JDM BALLA! both cars

I recently installed a 7.5 Fidanza with Exedy Stage 1... Car feels sick now!

Besides the obvious grip the clutch has I definitly noticed the flywheel change as well...

revs DO fall faster, rev mathcing is quicker, much more ooomph through low rpm shifts

Absolutly bro, I now kick myself in *** for not weighting new set up b4 put in. The stock was lighter as the pressure plate wasnt as beefy really notice a huge. Thats prob why i dont diff. Its a bit better but noibg much. I guess thats why people notice a huge diff normally, They just stick in the fly with their stock clutch
Runs greatm revs a BIT quicker if anything but no worse Dont matter, light fly wheel still takes stress of engine and thats what matters

I got a b16b in my 94 HATCHBACK and it doesn't feel like a b16a to me at all, what you need to do is lose the ctr ecu. I ran that ecu and got rid of it for a katman program vtec 5700 and rev limit 8800 and adjust the timing and you'll fel the difference.

reason why i want to go to obd1 is to tune it. Im running a jdm itr ecu right now as the shop didnt have a ctr that was the right fitment for adaptor harness. I look forward to proper tuning.

Ive drivin A TON OF CARS with swaps. I love my b16b but it aint that great. Unless you put in ls crank and itr rods. then its a ****** beast

Its the missing tq that kills it but I got nothin but love for the daily driver
