Can anyone tell me how to pull the heater controls out of a 88-91 Civic without breaking them? Pictures would be great.

 

how i've always done it is gently unscrew them, push them back a little bit (it can't go much because of the bracket in the back, but enough to get off the pegs) then take pliers and bend the dash back away from the climate control. don't worry, it'll go back easily. most of the time they have cracks starting in the back that you can't see, and thats why they bust when you're trying to pull it out.

wrap something around it in the back before you put it in to keep it from flexing the way you don't want it to.
