I am looking at a 2000 5dr ls. it has 60k miles, but has a reconditioned title due to collision. it is at some place where they buy these kind of damaged cars fix them up and sell them. i looked at it and found that the driver side UCA is bent at the balljoint (from collision) and the lower tranny mount is also torn. also the abs light is on, due to the cables being disconnected from the ABS unit. it is also missing the right fender liner. the guy told me that they replaced the front passenger fender as well as the front bumper. i drove the car and it feels real good, it pulls a bit to the right, (but that is from the bent UCA) but everything else works fine, and it doesn't seem to have any frame damage. i know for a fact that i could fix these other problems real easy because i have a couple extra UCA laying in my garage, and another tranny mount/fender liner is a real easy fix, the ABS is not a concern for me, cause i can drive it around without it if i need to. this guy there said that he is wanting $7k for the car with everything fixed, other wise he will take a offer as-is. i am thinking about offering him about $5.5k as-is and i will fix the other **** up pretty easy/cheaply. what do you guys think, is this a decent offer for a car in this condition or should i forget about it?
Well if the damage is minor and very easily fixed i would make that offer to him but i wouldnt pay more than five and a half for it. if he says he wants more then i wouldn't go for it.

places like these are sooo fucked up. Tell him you'll consider paying him $7k if he fixes ALL the parts FIRST. If he's not fixing something, its for a reason. If he could pull another $1500 out of the sale by paying another $200 for parts, then he would.
The other thing is, if you get a car with a recon title like that, you have to realize that you will probably NEVER be able to sell it to anyone EVER AGAIN. People don't buy recon or salvage titled vehicles.
unless you're very very mechanically inclined and experienced, I say don't do it. Offer him $4k. See what he says. If he says no, tell him you'll call him in 2 weeks.
Best advice I can give is to go there with $4000 cash in your hand. Tell him its all you have. He most likely will not turn it down. $4000 is an ok deal. Even if you're stuck with the problems, you'll still be able to get it running right for under $5000 most likely.
