need to make my car beat a damn jeep..
yea it sad, i got a 91 dx hatch, 4 speed manual
we raced once.. wasnt really a race since he started out in front of me at a stop light turning right and i was a dumbass and left it in 2nd which i shoulda dropped in 1st and he took off on me. even if i dropped it in 1st i dunno if i could of beat him with that beastly 70 hp engine. im planning on putting in a b16 at the end of summer, would i beat him for sure with that or not.. probly depends on how fast i can shift and such.. well i can shift decently fast..
plus after i lost that "race" ive gotten so much **** because hes like anti imports and he especially hates hondas.. so would that stock b16a1 by itself be enough to beat him?

he sais its got more torque then a dodge ram does, but i doubt that.. and ya.. only reason hes been beating me is cause of that damn torque

and the fact that the 4-speed in yer car suxx *****. my sons 91 civic sucked *** with his 4-spd. but i put a si 5spd in it (from a 90 crx si) last sunday,...now he can hang right with me. he is sohc..mini me..i am b16.
Wow 4 speed? haha u need to do something about that bro. I duno how u lost to a jeep. -=P Swap a engine and change the 4 spd to a 5 spd. and u can be smoking em'
lol ya, my hatch is such a piece atm, 4 speeds are so gay and slow... im saving for a b16 in a couple months, and im probly gonna have to bring my beast in the shop and have them do it for another $500 or so im guessing. since i have no clude what im doing even though ive seen writeups on it... but id rather have a tech do it right then me taking a shot at it and ******* something up costing lots of $$$
but heh, my hatch has faster accel then my brothers 96 probe
(not saying much)

My buddy had a 97 wrangler with the I6...made plenty of torque...they are prenty quick out the hole...it really drops off speed 1/2 way through fourth...he went 16.6 through the 1/4...dunno if that helps...but on the highway they suck...no ***** on the top end...

well when i first attempted to race him, i didnt think he would take off like he did, but my car isnt the fastest thing on the street... but if that jeep ran 16's then b16 swap should beat it since they are like 14's - 15's depending on driver..
um.. how much would the b16a1 complete conversion be plus the maintenence? im guessing around 2k
also.. would a stock b16 ef9 beat an automatic 99 z24 cavalier?
thx

my XJ 4L jeep auto with 3:55s stock has ripped apart a bunch of 5th gen SIs
you'll need some power to past that low end grunt they weeze out up top *5k lol*
i'd bet even a6 + std would do it.

Good luck finding an actual shop do the job for under 3000. But thats including everything, out the door. And also if they can get the parts needed for cheap. It costs around, sometimes more, 2 grand. Motors can be had for 1250 + shipping. Then mounts, shift linkage and axles. Easily adds up to 2000. Then labor, will probably not be below 750 if there arent any hitches.
YOur best bet is to find someone to help you with it on the side, that way you can learn something about your car. Save you a lotta money and time in the future when it comes to maintenence and repair.

What year jeep was it? We have a few of the 2000 ish models at work, those things GIT IT
when you have to. But like Ace$nyper said, I think that if you have a healthy A6 with the correct tranny, you should be able to take that dude's Jeep.

Ive got a buddy with a Tj with the 4.0 and he trys to race me all the time, Ive got a crx with mini me. He keeps up untill about 50mph than I just pull away. Those things are geared so low. and hes got 33"s with 4:10 gears! The Inline six has tons of tourqe, at a stop you can drop the clutch in first gear without touching the gas and it willl just jump off the line.
his is one of the older ones that does not have a hemi, i think its like a 96 or something.
and about me doing the swap myself... only person that could really do that is my dads friend but i was told that putting in a engine directly imported from japan is a little different than american engines. and hes also really busy being a single parent of 2 kids that he has to take care of.. so ya, so total u guys are thinking it could run me to 3k for a b16 complete conversion?

um debating
ive heard that a stock b18c will keep with a turbo b16a but that doesnt make any sense to me. ive also heard that its pointless to turbo a b18c, why is it pointless?
so i dunno whether to keep saving for a b16a and build the hell out of it or wait a year or so after the b16 and get a b18c and do some work with that?
which engine would perform better, fully built bored b16a turbo, fully built b18c possibly turbod, a all motor b18c, or hell even a fully built b20 vtec, money really isnt a concern since im gonna have my hatch for a long time, but i need an engine that will actually fit in a ef9 (example: im not putting a k series engine in there)
so ya, any input clear up a lot of confusion, thx

look, you need mpfi conversion anyways to do any engine conversion, why not start there? And just so you know there isnt really any swap that you can have a shop do for 500 dollars (including the engine and misc parts) The cheapest swap would be a D16a6 or a SOHC ZC and both you would want to upgrade the tranny with seeing how the 4spd is horrible for acceleration. Also the price on the engine w/shipping and then install will be a bit of a grand.
Start with MPFI conversion

um, my car is mpfi, or do u mean change it to the dual thing... and i dun wanna get another d series engine, i want b series
and ya i know im not going to get any engine work done for $500, that plus i have no hookups or know anyone that works in a performance shop so i could get a discount, so im out of luck there... but i know 3 people that have done engine swaps before, but those were all domesitcs. the 1 guy that is a self employed mechanic lives like 3 hours from my house, so id have to spend a couple days at his house while he does the swap and i learn from it
